I think the big power numbers from the Tripple racer were done on racing gas which is the necessary diet of high compression. ADU 180B's 289 was built with compression suitable for unleaded premium pump gas of 91 octane. There must be other differences but higher compression is responsible for most of the power differential between the two race cars.
All figures below are measured at the wheels. Manual transmission rear drive cars lose about 15% of crank HP on the trip back through the gears.
