Update 07/29/1999 Click Concours Click AutoX Click BanquetElk in Yellowstone Park
Wow!! Where to start? A super ski destination, The Huntley Lodge in Big Sky, MT was the gathering place for over a hundred and twenty Rootes automobiles. About 80 Tigers included! International? You bet! Quality in spades and a few beaters. No matter, everybody had fun. CAT Members were involved in everything.
Rare cars? The first production Tiger "JAL #1" and the Ken Miles prototype Ford powered Alpine were there. Both new and stunning restorations. Competition history? How about a Le Mans Coupe and the Targa Florio car which was driven to second in the prototype class with Peter Harper at the wheel. Rosemary Smith herself and the likes of David Duncanson came to talk mingle and drive Sunbeams in Montana.
A comfortably spaced week of activities started with washing and detailing for the Concours. Besides the big car show an AutoX, a Rallye and the Awards Banquet were the main events. There was plenty of free time to hike, river raft, shop and see Yellowstone Park. Speaking of the Nat. Park, the Rallye was a start when you want, go where you want and come home when you want day to go to Yellowstone and enjoy. Unfortunately Bison took over the road between West Yellowstone and Madison at 10:00 am and caused a major traffic jam. Many turned back. We stuck it out and eventually got Tiger Blue out of the stop and go. Came real close to puking coolant.
West Yellowstone
was full of Sunbeams on Rally day.
The cause of
the traffic jam.
Old Faithful
was a little late. No one cared.
CAT XTC did
nearly 3,000 miles including a few hundred in Yellowstone.
