The
first day (for us, second for many) started days before with those last
minute maintenance items. Tiger Blue ruptured an axle seal at Fontana
on June 2nd but the new Carbotech rear shoes did not arrive until the 27th.
Just in time parts (better for manufacturing than going on a trip) to get
it driving and put to bed waiting on a 2:45 am alarm. The early start
and 6 hours of cool early morning driving allowed us to arrive in time
for the quiz. Piece of cake! The drive that is, not the Tiger
Quiz. Bruce Davis was Quiz Master.
Hap Hazard of Mammoth Lakes was the Ralley Chair for the event and surprised everyone with a unique format. Each team was given the instructions and a disposable camera at the start. Along the 120 mile plus route the Ralley Master required participants to take photos of themselves and their Tiger at a half dozen checkpoints along the way. The second requirement was to have fun! (And show it in the photos) I did a lot of griping about this Rally until the Awards. As the winners Bonnie and I thought it was perfect.
Buck Tripple worked, sweated and worried over getting George Boskoff as Key Speaker and Celebrity for Friday night. It was well worth it. George entertained us with Shelby stories and his remembrance of doing his job in a place where great things were happening under the heat and pressure of a cauldron. One of his jobs was to put a Ford V8 in a Sunbeam Alpine for Ian Garrad. Quoted from Tiger an Exceptional Motorcar by William Carroll : "George Boskoff did all the work in a small limited access room at the back of Carroll's (Shelby's) shop." Tiger history!!
