TIGERS UNITED XXXI “Celebrating Rootes Race Cars”![]()
June 26 - 29 2008. About 75 Tigers and Alpines plus 170 enthusiastic, Sunbeam fanatic, individuals attended the 31st edition of Tigers United. TU HQ was the Northwoods Resort. Big Bear is nestled in the San Bernardino Mountains and is defined by its rustic traditions, rich history, and pristine views. Big Bear provides four seasons of abundant recreational opportunities. The full calender included a welcome Pizza feed at the Hotel Thursday Night. The Concours was held at a Marina on the lake on Friday. The Snow Valley Ski parking was the site of the AutoX events on Saturday. Sunday morning was Rallye time with the Tiger Quiz later that day and the Awards and Banquet wrapped it up.
Along the way there were two evenings of speakers on the theme Rootes Race Cars. Ian Huntly of Johannesburg also enlightened us with the unique "African Violet" Tigers which were imported to South Africa. This was by the way a very International crowd for TU XXXI. Peter Thompson, and Ken and Louise Jacobs are expected from Australia each year but in addition were the Lewis's of Australia, four South Africans (Ian and Erika Huntly, Des Jacobs and Sharon Penhaligon) and three Germans (Martin Wisser, Bernd Duee and Kaoru Yamamoto).

As you might imagine the well stocked "Hospitality Suite" was always buzzing with people and conversation. Sharon Mountjoy, Bonnie Mueller and several other volunteers made sure the snacks were fresh and the beverages plenty and cold. Thanks to Darrell Mountjoy for doing a brilliant job with the vision, plan and ultimate success as Chairman. He had help of course from wife Sharon and many others. Bill Graf did the registration duties with a smile. Steve Alcala headed up the Concours Judging. Dan Walters set up the AutoX and kept it rolling. Rallye Master was Big Bear resident Kieth Rowe. Mike Michels did a great job as the Master of Ceremonies. I know I am missing thanks to someone? sorry but thank you too!
Photos? We have photos! Several people sent me great photos. Below are 5 slide shows with some good sampling of what I was sent. If you take the time to look at them you may agree that this was maybe the best Tigers United yet. Just click the first picture of each set to start a slide show.
