The "Concours" is the most serious and most important of the several opportunities for potential Lord Rootes Trophy winners to score points. With double the points of the lessor events, ie Autocross and Rally, a high score in the judging is paramont to winning overall. Some contestants were up late and early doing the final detailing and brushing away the dust from the Rally competition.
Rob and Jennifer Guerra had their Tiger up on jacks with the wheels off after sunset. Getting everything that showed (and some things that did not) sparkling helped earn them the Personalized First Place, Popular Vote and the Lord Rootes Trophy. Good job and a beautiful Tiger to say the least. This year the Personalized Class had at least four serious, knock them dead contenders for only 3 officily recognized positions.
A former L R winner, Bruce Ulrich brought the pretty green Mark II to claim the Stock win. The "Modified" victors were Jerry and Marlene Vanderpool with the Candy Red Mk1A which took the same honor at SUNI 3 in 1999. The standards keep getting higher every year as high buck restorations and seriously hard work combined with infinitely picky detail push the bar up another notch.
It took lots of people to put on a quality show like this. Doug Babcock and Terry Curry took on most of the preparation work and choose the Toro Park site. They also recruited the many qualified judges (dozens) who looked at the paint, engine, interior, trunk and honked the horn. I enjoyed my small role in the judging teamed up with Bruce Ulrich. We had responsibility for exterior and paint judging in the personalized Class.
