The Rallye, June 28, 2001

Tigers United XXV/Tigers by the Sea, Salinas and Monterey

Steve Alcala

The Rallye kicked off at 2:00pm Thursday from the Laurel Inn.  Easy!.. as these things go the emphasis was on enjoying the drive through a variety of great roads and scenery.

The directions zig zag'd us through Salinas and out to the Toro Park on 68 for a look at where we had to go for the Concours Friday.  Then south on River Road through strawberry fields and lots of lettuce.  G16 to the Carmel Valley was a "sharp curves next 40 miles" kind of road and virtually deserted but for the Sunbeams.  After over 90 miles we arrived at the finish in Carmel Valley.  We arrived just in time to participate in the local hot rod cruise night.  The large number of Tigers really surprised the Carmel regulars who had not seen two Tigers in the same place for 20 years.

Questions along the way were easy enough that many got them all right.  The tie breaker was to duplicate the mileage of Rallye Master.  Three people also did that and were awarded 3 First Place trophies.  Ted Dobos and Sam Toy, Jennifer and Rob Guerra, Stan Clark with Carol Ireland.  The rallye was put on by Bill and Sheryl Jackson who live in Salinas.  Thanks for the great job!
