From the photos, the steering wheel and carpet look worn. There could be other issues, but no more photos.

From the description the car is a survivor , so much of it still original . Those items are showing patina but by no means damaged.

Just curious how so many questionable cars sell for big money at auction, then really solid honest cars being far more realistic prices. Makes me question the legitimacy of many of the sales as you see the same poor quality car go through several sales each time ramping up in value ... that blue mkia with crooked side trims that did the in 2014/15 particularly cones to mind... the auction results over 100k some over 110.. then this car only 60 or Tim morrins mki around mid 60's ... something suspicious at many classic auctions me thinks

Survivor

What am I missing ? Repaints are now called survivors? Looks like a fairly nice car though. I would rather have had Tim's car it only needed a paint job.

Like I said a few months ago, I've been thinking prices (generally) peaked sometime in late '14/early '15. Seems a lot of the speculation has subsided, looking at prices on any number of cars (like 911's, lesser Ferrari's etc)

This Tiger could have been the victim of a few things: no reserve, not enough Tiger fans in the audience and Brexit a couple of days before seemed to hurt the auction, a bit.

I'd say it will be seen as a good buy and a weak sale, when we look back on it a year or two from now.

Shopping Crowds

Wrong time of year to post a car in the Nor'east. The boy toy crowd is at the lakes playing with other stuff so the good bidders are elsewhere . . . . .

They call it a survivor yet its been painted, replaced the fan with a flex fan, and changed the wheels changed. Looks like the seats may have been redone too.

Survivor?

I think you may be optimistic on the condition.

It has had two owners and has been in the same family for the past 35 years - it passed from father to son in 2009. So 15 years of history are in question.

Documents include original owner's manual and Tigers East documents back to 1984. So real documentation is missing.

At 29K miles a repaint, wear, new fan, new wheels, dash switch in wrong position, engine compartment repaint, etc. Seems unusual.

Mike,

By no means a trailer queen, the photos could be more extensive, but from what I see car has correct sill profiles, door gaps on body to sill are good and flanks look ripple free. I would note the sunbeam lettering is missing from the front , and soft top is not folded down .. the later likely auction house not knowing how.

Looking at the steering wheel in the pics.. lacquer is gone but wood isn't broken and hub not split. The wheels are new sure.. but that's a common replacement and they look recent.. probably has the originals still with it.

The car won a survivor award with teae only 2 years ago so must not be to bad, they tend to know what's going on.... I think lack of photo coverage brings out the sceptism.. I'd still buy this one before many others I've seen several for 40% more.

Hopefully new owner will drop by

Barrett Jackson car

Lots of small things and or details make one think a little harder about what a survivor car is. Flat black paint in the engine compartment on a low mile car, wrong rear view mirror, I'm sure there are other issues a quick glance can't pick up. Maybe if it's been around the clock and comes back to 28k miles, this might account for some of the issues.

I don't think reversible personalization items affect "survivor" status. The generally unrestored state of the vehicle is what I believe most consider "survivor". The only thing pointed out that is questionable is the repaint, the rest is easily remedied if "original" is what you judge survivor by...my two cents :)

Agree with Michael, this car is likely a better example of an original car than many that have gone for significantly more money over the last couple of years. Like I said, I'd think it is both a sign of a collector car market that is pulling back a little and an auction that didn't have the right bidders for the car.

I haven't heard of a " survivor award " at a TE/AE United and I haven't missed a United since 1983.

Imagine that

Glad someone else posted the Craigslist ad. Guess his new bottom dollar would be his shipping cost, the buyer's premium and overhead, and profit.

Certainly not a bad word, just imagine the business expenses on his buying trip.

Still a survivor, or mostly a survivor? Survivor and don't count the flipper(s) as owners.

Wow.... so lazy he's even used photos from the auction and one at the auction.. maybe it's technically true on 2 owners perhaps he hasn't even settled on it and is trying to flip before his name is in the paperwork!!!

This car has been relisted for sale locally here for $89,900 , I guess a quick turn around is a good thing ?

Its only about a half hour from the casino where the auction was . Still says 2 owners , but it would be 3 or more unless he bought his own car !
The car looks solid

I have some pics and info on this car from it's sale April 2015 on eBay for US$45100
Seller stated then that his dad bought it the '80's' and promptly painted it black...'original' color was carnival red

$90K for that, what a joke, I think $45K was all the money in the world for that car.
I see a big Tiger bubble soon to burst, speculators driving market prices, no substance to the massive increases in the past couple of years.
There are plenty of very nice cars in the world for $90K, sorry to say, that sure as heck ain't one of them, a fully restored MkII maybe...

With a little effort and money that car could have probably sold for $75.000.00, most at auction want to buy perfection not a project, that's a project in many respects. Engine bay looks like crap and so does the interior, looks more like a $40k Tiger to me.
