Scatter Shield

So how does the wetness cause the clutch to explode?

Inquiring minds want to know. I don't know for sure myself but from what I gather I'll take a stab at it. Someone please correct me if I wrong.

Oil on clutch causes clutch to slip generating heat. Heat causes fractures in flywheel. Heat, fractures, RPM cause flywheel to exceed tensile strength. BOOM! Also just as brake fluid on brake pads may cause failure, oil on clutch plate may cause plate to separate. I'm not sure how much damage disintegrating clutch material will do though.

Do you need a scatter shield? For stock street use, probably not but doesn't hurt to have one. I put one on for a while but I believe it was removed at some point. For the track, it appears to be a requirement in most cases.
