Santa
was helped by the CHP and CAT on Dec 20th. Five Tigers and a Mini
Cooper with elves and bags overflowing with toys were treated to a Highway
Patrol escort. With Chippies leading with full lights and an occasional
blast of the siren the group made a high speed run to the finish at the
SpeedZone. Bill Graf organized the escort and said it was quite
a thrill with CHP motorcycles and cars stopping traffic for them.
Bonnie and I arrived late so we missed the excitement. We hope to
get another chance next year.
The CHP collects the toys
for distribution to kids who really get a kick out of Santa showing up
in a Highway Patrol Cruiser. Thanks to Bill Graf for providing the
photo at the intersection above. Besides Bill and Maria Graf, there
were Chris Thoman, Dennis and Judy Butler, Sue and Phil Cohen, Jere and
Jackie Teepen, Bernie and Mary Lou Zelmanski with son Brian, Tom, Marilyn
and Hank Duncan and your web master and membership Queen Bonnie.
Pictures below of CAT Members
at play with Karts on the Slick Track at SpeedZone. Lots of good
fun and competitive over the top driving. The slippery track makes
for a great place to learn car control and out of control with safety.
Lots of counter steering and drifting through the turns!
Later the same day in El Segundo the CAT Holiday Party was put on at the Stick & Stein Restaurant. Bill Graf arranged for the dinner and we had a gathering of about 40 or so. Lots of good cheer and distribution of "Tiger" gifts. A special treat after the party was a visit to nearby "Candy Cane Lane", This is a cul de sac where all the residents decorate with lights and displays including complete train sets. Steve and Jane Alcala live in El Segundo and suggested the side trip before leaving for home. We are glad we did. Sorry but I forgot to take pictures there :(
