CAT's Holiday Party and Dinner was at De Lucas Restaurant in Whittier December 1st. About 35 members friends and family participated in the festive evening. No distance award was handed out but Brian Faerge and Vickie from Whistler, BC came down to see family, go to Disneyland and also attend the CAT Party. The Grand Prize in the drawing was that viciously posed Tiger we all love to hate. Dennis Curley of Brea, CA was the winner. Dennis is a new and enthusiastic member, he brought his Grand Daughter to the party in "Hobbes" the Commodore Blue Mk1 he bought from Joe Smith last year.
Santa and some needy kids were helped on December 8th by the CHP and CAT. After the participants met they were escorted in toy laden Tigers by the California Highway Patrol with lights flashing through stop signals and over the Freeway to the CHP's Baldwin Park Station. Lots of toys were delivered and Chris Thoman won "Best Decorated Tiger". We did not go to the Speedzone this year because the "Zone" would not confirm their participation or a date until it was too late.
The CHP escort cleared the way allowing the other world experience of driving an empty Freeway in the middle of the day. Testimony to the ideal December weather was that the Sunbeams were all top down!
The
CHP collects the toys for distribution to kids who really get a kick out
of Santa showing up in a Highway Patrol Cruiser.
