How much coolant and is there a method

I am finishing up putting the car (Mk1a) after getting it back from the paint shop and have a few questions but will post them individually since they are of different subject matter.

1. How much coolant does the car take (radiator, all hoses and expansion tank were all removed)? I put in 3 US Gal but am wondering if there isn't any air pockets. Also, is there a method to fillingint properly so that all air is out and the heater etc is attended to?

When I have added fluids for the first time I take the water temp sending unit out of the intake manifold, as I fill I listen to the air coming out and as soon as fluid starts to weep out I re-install the sending unit.

Gravity works !

Note that the heater core sits more than a little taller than everything else. Unless you hang the poor critter from the front bumper, there's gonna be air trapped in there. Messy solutions would include disconnecting a feed hose and playing with a funnel. I just run them till warm and they "burp" .
