We all gathered Saturday morning for breakfast in Barstow where we planned the day's cruise. We first went to the Harvey House in Barstow before Following Route 66 to the Bagdad Cafe and on to Roy's in Amboy.

Route 66 between Amboy and Ludow had the worst pavement we encountered. In parts our top speed lowered to 45 mph.

The Goffs schoolhouse Museum was our last California stop.

And then it was on to Arizona.

Thousand Mile Weekend Cruise - Part 2

After crossing over the Colorado River we took the first exit to the town of Golden Shores where we filled up before driving to Oatman the home of dozens of "wild" burros who graze on tourist handouts.

After Oatman, Route 66 continues climbing before dropping down for the run into Kingman. Since it was well into the afternoon and we were meeting Dave and Josie Bates at the Cruiser Cafe in Williams for dinner, we all elected to use I-40 for the drive into Williams.

We spent the night in Williams.

Thousand Mile Weekend - Part 3

On Sunday we went north to the Grand Canyon. Some on the train, some in a helicopter and one drove a Tiger.

Thousand Mile Weekend - Part 4

Tom had returned home Sunday. The rest of us started back on Monday.

Several of us decided to travel the portion of Route 66 between Williams and Kingman which we had bypassed on Saturday. It turned out to be a great road and even boasted several sets of Burma Shave signs. We encountered some interesting vehicles on the way home.

Thank you for the blow by blow and the pix. Even through snaps, the viewing of the "canyon" is exciting.
