What an October!  So Cal Sunbeam events on every weekend and great friends and weather to enjoy them.  Woodley Park, Buttonwillow Raceway, Parts Warehouse Open House, CAT I and vintage racing in San Diego with open track at Willow Springs on the last 2 days of the month.

Five CAT Members enjoyed pushing the limits and getting scared by the nasty spirits just over the edge of control.  The "Fastest track in the West".   Continued warm weather was a blessing.  The fickle winds stayed away and we really enjoyed being out in the 80 to 85 degree temp.

Four groups of cars assaulted the track for twenty minutes at a time.  President Dan Walters celebrated 20 years of running the track at Willow this weekend.  His first track time in a Tiger was at a Cobra Club event here.  Experianced and successful vintage racer Dan was the VARA BP Chanpion last year.  The second black Tiger on the track was driven by original owner, Dave Herting of Los Angeles.  Dave has raced his car for more years than ?  He was very competitive in slaloms back in the 70's when the car was full race and running on slicks.  By the way his wife Erika made him buy the Tiger instead of a less practical Cobra.  Roll up windows and a little space behind the seats was better for a growing family?  Erika helped him crew the car at Willow.  Darrell Mountjoy shared the driving of your humble webmaster's '97 Mustang.  Brock Tella was there all the way from Encinitas (San Diego County).  Brock says his Tiger is more for show but the Pantera he brought to the track looked ready for show and go.

A few other CAT members showed up to see and hear the wonderful cars running the track.  Big and small block Cobras, a "new production" Daytona Coupe and dozens of Shelbys filled the field.  Mike Lawrence of Newhall and Matt Thiebaud of Acton are both planning to run open track Tigers and were out to see who was there and feed the motivation to finish their cars.  Darrell was also just a little short of ready with his Tiger and he will have her on the track next year.  Tiger Blue was left at home in favor of thrashing my Mustang for two days this time.  Tiger Blue will be back.  How about you?
