The Cobra Club events at the "big track" Willow Springs are the best of the Open Track events anywhere. Best because the atmosphere is relaxed and the cars are drop dead super fords. Lynn Park and his friends enjoy performance unleashed and free. GT-40s, Cobras, GT350 Shelbys, and of course Tigers running as fast and loud as is possible.
This "over sold" (Late entries were the cars Lynn wanted to see on the track.) event featured four run groups taking "turns" on the track. Passenger sessions allowed a taste of the fun to many of the family, friends and CAT members that came out to watch. They got to see what the track was like at a reduced speed.
Four Tigers enjoyed pushing the limits and over the "Fastest track in the West". Late fall in the desert is beautiful if you are lucky, We were! CAT members Matt Thibaud, Dan Walters, Tom Sakai and the author enjoyed both days. Tom Sakai brought his race car and his son (missed his name) went out with the novices for his first experience on any track. Dale Akuszewski brought out his Tiger racer on Sunday to break in his new engine. Rumor is that Dale may renew or rejoin CAT. His customers are riding him a little.
With the cancellation of the NAS Coronado races, CAT I was changed to tie in to the Cobra Club event and Dinner. Many members did make the trek out to the track for one day or the other. Dennis and Carol Mancini and Ken Mattice came out for the weekend and attended the dinner with me. Those of us running the track appreciated the interest and the novelty (for us) of fan support. Some other members out for a look at the cars were Steve Hackworth, Mike and Judy Lawrence, Jeff Wilkins with Gayle, and Jock Coomb. Jeff Wilkins has only been a member/Tiger owner a few months and came out both days. To say he is enthusiastic is an understatement. Jeff provided the fine B/W photos. He will be doing open track with us by Mother's Day (Next Cobra Club event).
