This appeared on New Zealands equivalent to EBay -Current exchange rate puts this at US$ 67,000 . I don't know but something doesn't fit - The chassis plate looks doctored and I can't see a dimple under the generator -Overall not sure -Not wanting to buy it as I already have mine but know someone who would be interested if genuine -Would appreciate comments -Karl

The resolution of the vin tag is horrible. The obvious question is why does it have an alternate chassis tag???.... Obviously, it was NOT constructed in California.... As all production Tigers emerged from Jensen. Ridiculous that they say they have documentation from Shelby!! Any documentation would need to come from the Jensen ledgers or the Coventry Heritage trust. or a copy of the Jensen ledgers. I swear, are all used car dealers just one step up from amoebas?

It's impossible to even figure out what the chassis number is due to the poor resolution of the pics and the non-disclosure of the vendor as to what the actual factory vin is/was. To borrow from MAD MAX... "run away, just run away" Says the "Humongous"!!!
 
You have to love someone asking that price for a vehicle and providing a whopping total of eight photos.

Agree - I have asked for some photos of the Trunk , Battery box ( I bet its got one) and the underneath - As Sean says run run run . However its just possible that the car dealership doesn't realise they may be misrepresenting the vehicle. Maybe' just maybe' if this is confirmed then they will do the honourable thing and adjust their sales pitch - Karl
 
The flyer in the windshield seems to indicate they think they have a prototype of sorts. The VIN on the flyer doesn't match the VIN tag on the car. The flyer says it's a prototype based off a Series 2 Alpine. From memory, I think the prototypes (early AF cars) were Series 3 based for the first batch. Not sure what they're selling, and I don't think they are, either!

The cars sent to Shelby and Ken Miles were both series 3 Alpines...
 
Spoke to the car dealer and they are selling on behalf of some one else Surprise surprise has a battery box -So at least a rebodied Tiger if not a Tigpine/Alger . The car dealer is somewhat more educated about the difference between Tigers and Alpines -He seemed dissappointed that other than the battery box , the concavity under the generator and some pretty rough Jensen gas welding that I didn't have an extensive list of things to look for -I told him that such a list does exist but is largely held in the hands of TAC experts (the closest being in Australia ) and not published to avoid a manual of how to create a fraudulent Tiger.

Interesting it looks better in these photos than the others . The most interesting thing of the lot is that on the windshield there is a service sticker for Hoffman Ford . Hoffman Ford is a dealership in Dannevirke in New Zealand -The owner Barry Hoffman last I heard was the owner of the original Maxwell Smart Tiger which he imported into New Zealand -Is this Max's car ?? -Karl

Iirc the car in NZ was the alpine prop car with gadgets used in get smart....not the tiger used in the start/driving shots.

Michael I'm pretty sure it was the Tiger -One of my patients complied it for New Zealand registration and only a few days ago we were discussing it when he saw my Tiger screensaver on my work computer -Karl
 
Michael I spoke to my patient today and it was definitely a Tiger that he complied for Barry Hoffman who told him it was from the Get Smart show .
 
According to Wikipedia (which we know is not always accurate):

Don Adams, who played the protagonist Maxwell Smart, gained possession of the Tiger after the series ended and later gave it to his daughters; it is reportedly on display at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.

I am not familiar with the term "complied" as it applies to cars. Does this mean bringing a vehicle up to standards in order to register it in another country?

And did Agent 861's patient say how long ago he complied the car for Barry Hoffman? The Playboy Mansion traded hands somewhere around 2017.

Maybe you meant, compiled? I was under the impression that the "Get Smart" car was an Alpine as there was no way the hood mounted rocket launcher was going to fit under the hood of a Tiger....
 
Yes, there is no way some of the special effects used on Get Smart's car would fit in a Tiger. My understanding was that the Tiger was used in the opening title sequence and in parts of some of the episodes, but the Alpine was used most of the time. I do remember reading a newspaper article about the time Get Smart ended that mentioned Don Adams was driving his trash cans down a long driveway to the curb in his Tiger.
 
The show "Get Smart" had 2 Sunbeams - an Alpine which was the "gimmick" car and a Tiger. As HolyCat noted, the Tiger was used in a number of episodes.
Don Adams had what appears to have been a third Tiger as his personal car. He kept it for many years but his kids kept getting into accidents with it so, tired of repair bills, he eventually sold it. CAT members Steve & Jane Sage owned it for a period and later sold it. I have no idea who owns it now. As to it being on display at the Playboy Mansion, Don and Hugh Hefner were certainly close friends and Don was certainly a frequent visitor. But I have never heard about a Tiger being in residence there. Don never mentioned that nor did his daughters when CAT hosted a lunch honoring him.

He also had the (68 I think) Shelby Mustang... whether it was a GT350 or a GT500 I do not know....
