Looking for the paint formula for a 1965 Tiger paint code 19 Moonstone colour or cross reference to current paint manufactures such as PPG.

Cheers

My Tiger was originally painted Moonstone and when I stripped the car down
I found that it had been painted yellow at one point then Artic white. Like you
I figured I would return back to original and bought a spray can of moonstone
from a supplier ( can't remember who it was ). I took a small panel and painted it Moonstone...that is by far the ugliest color man could have put on a sports car...kind of a dirty white and not at all becoming. I went with a true British racing green..not forest green and never looked back......

If available, you can also use underside of the hood latch (assuming it still has the original Moonstone color) - a good source for color match as not faded by sunlight. If not available, I have such a latch painted Moonstone you can borrow to gain a match. Would have to figure out how to get it to you - PM me if interested.

Bill, that was a really unhelpful answer ....... Even less so from someone who owns such a personalised car

As suggested the underside of the heater panel hood latch plate is a good source for a colour match. Jan servities from the SAOCA forum has colour matched all the colours and sells a small CD with your colour sprayed on so the painter can match it. His user I'd on the alpine forum is jumpinjan . there was also a list of ppg colours for a while I will see if I can get that set of numbers.

Booty is in the eye of the beeholder

Or something like that. I liked the period colors my original VW 64 was a grey like white and it is a great period color. Some guys don't like the period grey colors, but we can't all drive Red or Green cars:). Some shops do a really good job on a color change some don't. Put some nice period 13'' Dunlops or other period correct wheels too:D

Most paint suppliers have a machine that will "read" the sample and make a formula for it--that's what we did for my blue car. Moonstone is a little like my Wimbledon White on my Shelby--a dirty white especially when next to a bright white. I say go back white, there are enough red and green Tigers floating around.,,,just look at the Monterey pic. They look good when all alone, but get a gaggle of them and they blend together.

Your probably right but my point is if your going to spend a boat load of money
on a nice paint job why not pick something that makes the car jump out at you....anyway that is my opinion

Bill,

you are right it is your opinion... and in your statement of that "why not pick something that makes the car jump out at you" you made my point... maybe that colour is one some people like.. they bought it for that reason when new...I have a friend with a moonstone alpine with the original scarlet interior.. its a nice looking car.

Also to put it all in perspective.. you are a knowledgeable sunbeam guy... you said "that is by far the ugliest color man could have put on a sports car" .. does that mean you prefer the orchid green offered on the MKII Tigers and SV alpines?

have your opinion... but try and answer the guys question.. not just beat up on his choice.

Gee; up here in the damp Nor'east where salty rust is the dominant color, we are quite pleased if things start & run down the road without too much ankle draft.

Amen

There is a song by Jimmy Buffet, with the line as memory serves, "Snappy little white and red turns everyone's head,"

Hope it gets a red interior with white piping. You could always add some vinyl red stripes and change by peeling them almost as fast as the weather.

There are some judging guidelines that are posted in TEAE that say a slight difference in hue or color is acceptable. I painted a couple cars BMW Chamonix white after my old 3.0 CSI

The current owner sent me a pic the other day. I had a BRG stripe on it.
Hard to see the old girl in the arms of another, but I like the work he has done..

I think a white car with red interior is a beautiful sight, my 2nd choice would be black car with red interior but I am getting too lazy to treat a black car like it should be treated. :)

The Shelby Prototype was Moonstone. It's been painted white but the convertible door is still Moonstone and it looks good to me.

I'm sure Michael will not like this but..........In the cobra world when Ford designed the 4" round 427 frame it called for a certain length but Ac went ahead and bought tubing cut to size at the old 3" tube length in order to get a better price... I suspect that the buyer of that tubing was fired and then went to work at Sunbeam and got a great cheap price on Moonstone in volume. You see Moonstone is on more Tigers than any other color which s why we see them so frequently now. I'm sorry but I have spent the last 40 years restoring sports cars ( mostly Corvettes :D) and when I saw what Moonstone looked like on a panel I said "No Way" we spend big money getting these cars ship shape and show ready and moonstone just doesn't cut it in my book. Alpines look great in Moonstone but Tigers don't !!!!!

Get over it

Dog of the Moon? BRG v Moonstone? Personal taste or it is a done deal better like it BRG we get it. I like the color of my Tigers and I never painted either one. Neither is "correct". If someone thinks that is dumb or wrong? I will ignore them.

Not sure how old this data is, but I have a printout that lists Moonstone as Ditzler 32042 and Dulux enamel as 84013. Hope this helps.

19 Moonstone Colour

I forgot how much fun this Forum is! You guys are halarious! Wish I had more time.

I restored my 65 Sunbeam back to its original colour and I have the PPG Code to match the original 19 Moonstone colour. I have it filed away at my warehouse, I will get it to you tomorrow!

Regards

Tom

I'd like to thank everyone for their input. It is a tough decision what colour to paint the 65 Tiger when you begin to invest so much time and money.

Keeping it original is the goal, Moonstone, a colour only a mother can love.

Sounds like you received plenty of support in gaining Moonstone color information - I'm in process of restoring a Mk I GT Tiger which included repainting back to Moonstone (had been painted Carnival by prior owners). I also wanted to return car to original color and generally stock. Best to you in your project.
