I helped Bo find that car and remember bringing it up to Fairfield, CA to Gil Baumgartner's shop with him. The Baumgartner's are actually T-Bird specialists and did the incredible restoration on Bo's "Battlebird" (Daytona Beach timed mile race Thunderbird), which led to Bo seeing them as his "go to" shop. As I recall, Bo's car was the first Tiger they'd worked on. Norm did consult on the restoration and no expense was spared.

Bo was a good friend and a fun guy. I hope the car finds a good home.

I attended the last BBQ Bo had at his house, what a fantastic collection of cars he had. I recall both the Tiger and Tbird in his garage along with some Shelby's and others. In fact he had the Ken Miles Tiger prototype there all restored too.

The bbq's at the Finley Lane house were great. Not only Bo's collection, but the other stuff that the NorCal Shelby guys would show up in provided plenty of cool cars to ogle :)

Auction house responsibility....

I wonder what recourse a buyer has for what's in the description. These guys have auctioned enough sunbeams to sort some of the errors in what I assume the owner/dealer supplies.

This auction has the blue mkia claiming 633 mkii were made and in the same sale a mkii with its listing claiming the accepted 536 mkiis. 2 conflicting numbers in the same auction.... C'mon guys get it together!!!

Then there is the claims about full restoration on the blue car.. Which we know has not been the case thanks to the last 2 years of ebat Craigslist and auction house sales and flips ..

I agree with what you are saying BUT doesn't the auction house have a disclaimer that goes something like this "not responsible for the cars description, sellers comments or how it's presented"?

In all fairness to the auction house they can't possibly know everything about every car, make and model. I guess it's up to us to notify the auction house, eBay, Craig's list or like sellers or cars if we see misrepresentations.

The old adages buyer beware and do your homework has never been more necessary.

All this is only my opinion which at times means nothing; especially to my kids:)
Cheers, Doug

agreed, but they are charging seller and buyers a high fee, so a little background research for basic facts is not to much to expect, especially if you are pitching yourselves as a knowledgeable classic and collector car businesses.

The notion they have 2 descriptions with conflicting data on a given type of car in the same auction means they are just copying and pasting whatever rubbish they are given, no due diligence no cross referencing, heck nothing but ctrl+a, crtl+c, Ctrl +v, ctrl+s .. And how would sir like to pay for our valuable expertise...

I share your frustration and this is exactly why I refuse to get sucked into the auction fever; as a buyer or seller.

This is why before I buy any classic car I join the car sites such as the Tiger and Shelby and read as much as possible; if only to get to the truth. Even then there are agendas that leave me suspicious.

Bottom line is that auctions are a business like car lots and its all profit motivated - I have even stopped asking new car salespeople about their cars because mostly they don't know it; my advice is go thru Costco to get a fairer price.

Cheers and have a great day.

Used cars

All is fair in Love War and used car sales right? I bet the MK2 flattens out.

I say the MK2 goes for 175,000 cause its plain Jane or in a plain white wrapper good buddies

mk2 price

I watched the auction of the white mk2 last night, it sold for $165,000.

There was a frightening couple of minutes (for the seller) when the price stalled at about $120,000. The head guy in charge of touting the cars seemed to be in genuine disbelief. He kept saying that this mk2 had been the most asked about car in this year's auction.

Since this was a no reserve auction they all seemed elated and relieved when a new bidder started bumping the price up and it finally sold.

Based only on pictures this car looked to be superior to the 2 sold last year for big money.

I saw all 3 Tigers at Russo and Steele and all were nice. I was a little surprised the blue one sold for 102k I think it was, but that's what the market brought. The white one was beautiful, the red "Tiger" was nice but heavily modified.
