The celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Shelby Cobra at Pomona is now over. The event was centered at the NHRA Museum and was combined with the annual Shelby Employees Reunion and an open track on the historic site of the old SCCA race track.

Three Tigers participated in the open track (Rick's, Tom's & our's). Our pits worked out quite nicely. Bob Bondurant in a GT-40 was our neighbor and Parnelli Jones took out the King Cobra that he won the 1964? Times Grand Prix at Riverside.

We had Tiger owners stop by who came down from Sacramento, Monterey and even Canada. The biggest surprise was having 1964 Tiger LeMans driver Claude Dubois stop by for a visit. Another surprise was the former owner of the Art Firmes race Tiger.

Tigers were also represented in the accompanying car show.

Our Tiger featured a new and possibly louder exhaust system which contributed to us being "benched" by the organizers. It seems they didn't quite understand before the event how healthy a Tiger can sound so they told us that we didn't need mufflers. However once the neighbors started complaining they changed their mind.

We did get one very good session in with the temperature close to 90 degrees. We decided to use it as a test to learn how well a 2 row aluminum radiator can handle a high horsepower engine and heat without a fan. We saw 230 on both water and oil so I think that we'll pencil 90 in as about our upper limit. At higher temps we'll go back to bolting on a small fan.

I attended the event too

I attended the event too and was able to meet some other tiger club members. Still have my new to me white/was midnight blue 66 transition car Tiger in the garage but got to drive over in an almost as good 750hp 05 Ford GT. I really think my Tiger could beat his car to 1 or 2 mph until he hooked up.

Overall the show was great. We did the car show, museum then took the shuttle to watch a one hour heat of racing from the tower. Then watched the celebrity parade. Lee

Did the 1000 mile trip again for Knott's and the 50th event---great time. Nice to meet the Tiger racing crew, hope to see you in a month or so at Sears Point.
