'66 MK1a dash question

Hi,
I'm buying a new dash for my '66 MK1a, does anyone one have a picture of an origianl unmolested dash?
Specifically, was there a hole between the light and panel switch as in this photo that I borrowed?

Yea, it's supposed to be plugged on a Tiger- IIRC that hole is for an overdrive light on an Alpine...it's pretty handy- I used it for an electric fan switch:

its actually the plug for the choke knob on an alpine. the O/d light is a hole that is the plugged between the tach and ammeter at the top

FYI: If you are patient and careful, you can gently uncover the little red barrel in your ignition light and "roll" it to an un-faded section to make it look new again.

I will be replacing my radio with a more retro unit this winter. I like the face shown above in Paul's "borrowed" picture, and a much smaller 8' wide black face unit. Which one is period correct?

the wider radio mount shown in the picture is what you would find if you placed a factory order for your car and ordered a radio in it. it was also available from dealers but on this side of the states you found the dealers using the small black mounting if they did a radio install. both mounts were period correct since dealers sold them.

the one in Pauls borrowed pic is Duke car... has has one of the factory correct radios.. there was also a 5 button version offered.

Rootes in the states also offered a smaller housing with a SUNBEAm branded radio .. there is discussio nas this being approved for the last of the SV and MKII tigers stateside.. it was used inthe later arrow boddied cars.

There are of course many "period" radios and housings instaleld by the various dealers be it for greater personal profit or lack of availablility of the genuine rootes options.

A few people have reproduced the housings as seen in dukes car.. they vary in quality and material... Triumph had the surround made and rootes had an adapted version of it.. if you buy a triumph one be warned you will need to fabricate some brackets.

the radio used in the fastbacks and arrows is different from the radio with "sunbeam" on the dial and the small black metal front mounting plate that was used in the series 5 alpines. the radio used in the fastback from 1968 on has different knobs, face and an entirely different mounting. the fastback mounting is a unit that surrounds the radio on the bottom and sides and has a slightly padded vinyl covering.

Yea, I kind of left that one wide open...seriously, though, I didn't 'graduate' to Tigers from Alpines- never owned an Alpine- my answer to the question was really just to let the owner know it was supposed to be a plug on a Tiger...
