AC housing part number

Please see picture. *The late cars had this stamping. There's also the number that is reported to be different on original LAT chrome housing tops.

* At least on the several reported to be, "unmolested" cars I have seen.

Air cleaner

So there’s a part number for an early painted air cleaner, chrome top (optional LAT part) and a later version of the painted top and bottom? Is this correct?
Does anyone know what these part numbers are?

Good question

It probably really isn't the part number, just later cars have the H6. I should have used the word stamping. The picture of the different number that is reported to be different on originally purchased chrome LAT units has gone astray from the posting.
It seems like from a recollection of that picture that number was stamped after plating or the unit was flash chromed. Thanks for the correction.

I was never able to get to the drawings. There was several options on what to include on the project. The tally of the surviving units viewed over nearly 2 years of pre production said use 69024 or leave it blank for the owner to decide. Any unit left blank is most likely one of the several pre approval proofs or a repaired or heavily plated original.

I've left alone the discussion of hammer tone paint color matching.
 
Part number

It is the part number. Be interesting to see if the H6 shows up on other drawings. There is substantial "hand made" before or after the production as the part number ends up on different areas of the lid. Imagine that a couple pints with lunch and variability in the stampings ;)
 
Other number

Cleaning up and found this picture . Seems interesting to note that both the top and bottom have been chromed judging by the reflection visible.

The Rootes part number for the air cleaner is 1224830. That includes both top and bottom since Rootes did not spare them separately. That is good for both Mk 1 and II. The numbers stamped on the parts are from the manufacturer, who ever that was. Without drawings it would be difficult to determine the factory finish. Since they are stamped "AC" one would expect that AC supplied them to Ford or Jensen (Did engines arrive at Jensen with air cleaners?) It is quite possible that several different suppliers for the parts were used by AC and stamped different numbers on functionally the same parts.
 
Drawings

First off the reproduction housings were reverse engineered from an original and many pictures of installed originals. The picture shown earlier came from this forum but was lost or removed.
The Jensen drawings show the 69024 on them. They do not show other number like the H6 or the pictured one.

Now I've seen several late cars believed to be original and they had the additional numbers.
Just a couple weeks ago I saw another one owner car that only had a 69024 , 6 th. from the end of MK1A production it didn't have the fill to tab in the header tank or overflow tank . It's my conclusion that they put on what they had and the pictured one may be what its OP said it was reported to be, and original chromed LAT lid. In all fairness I can't see them stamping a freshly chromed lid. Arguably anything other than a flash chromed lid will get those numbers filled up with copper nickel and final chrome plating.

Somewhere I've seen a picture of corralled crates of motors with no cleaners installed and also the picture of the industrial engine tag
 
Color

When I got a lead on a car for sale I found that there was a bottom plate for the removed housing. Is it just me or does anyone think a computer matched paint color is needed?

I may grab the lid top and weigh it next to the reproduction to settle a once heard objection that a reproduction is heavier then an original.



Forgot to agree on another of Bill's comments that I agree that possibly more than one vendor was used to furnish the housings as that would explain why a few I have seen have really crisp lettering, or maybe they pressed em more that day.
