I want to replace the generator with an alternator and have been looking at the DENSO Mini Alternator as a replacement. Has anyone ever converted to this brand and if so, how do you like it? Also, what model (part number) did you use. Or does anyone have a recommendation for an alternator other than DENSO that they are pleased with.

I also need to replace the distributor and am thinking of a complete new PERTRONIX unit. Can anyone give me some guidance here? Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi I have used the denso alternator with the details and bracket available from Hoghead
Also with the distributer I finally went with a MSD electronic. But I have e pertronix unit on my Alpine and that has been working for many years.

That would be me with the mini Denso bracket.
I chose Desno due to the wide range of outputs, 1 or 3 wire versions, integral regulator, Denso reliability, readily available, reasonable cost (unless you are in Australia) and a small frame size. There is a reason they they are the hot rod alternator of choice

There are several ways to do the conversion, including an expensive 90A Powermaster alternator that that looks like a stock generator. I have one, but not a bolt on solution due to the pulley; and while does not line up, it is easy enough to shim into alignment
Are you looking for a non-Denso solution?

I have had both Pertronix conversion kits and complete distributors in several different cars over the years and find it a great gadget - not such great experience with a clone conversion kit in my Healey and ended up replacing it with Pertronix kit. I have two complete Pertronix distributors on Tigers - a stock looking vacuum advance unit for the "stock" car, and a more sophisticated mechanical advance, rev limiter enabled, unit on another. Unless a purist, change it out, and never think of the distributor again.

Great response Robert. Per the purist look the finish of the new cad plating and the spare wire is the give away to the . I'd like to see something other than the cast zinc MK2 style that's available.
