The goal of this page is gather in a single place information applicable to US contributors about processes for donating to the Rootes Archive Centre Trust in Banbury in the UK.
It will be a work in progress and we will continue to add and modify Archive payment information as it becomes available.

The Rootes Archive Trust is a Charity registered in the UK. (Charity Commission for England and Wales number 1108882)
It is not a 503(c)(3) US Charity.

There are two main ways to contribute to the Charitable Trust: either directly or as a "friend".

Direct contributions can be made via PayPal
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=VRBV2Z83S9HX8
or to matthewollman@rootesarchivecentre.org.uk
This account can receive donations in USD or British Sterling.

Direct Payments to Bank incur a currency conversion charge in the UK.
Checks, are the least preferable method since they incur both a currency conversion charge and an administrative charge,
but can be made out to the Rootes Archive Centre Trust, can be mailed to the Trust at
Rootes Archive Centre,
Units G151-4, Cherwell Business Village,
Southam Road, Banbury,
Oxon OX16 2SP, UK

Direct payments can be made to the bank account.
Bank: Lloyds Bank
Account Number: 04179040
Sort Code: 30-97-41
BIC: LOYDGB21063
IBAN: GB49 LOYD 3097 4104 1790 40

Another method to contribute to the Trust is to route it through the Anglo American Charitable Foundation, a US 503(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity who will deduct a portion of your contribution ($100) and donate the remainder. This makes sense for those making large donations. An additional advantage of using this service is their very low charge for currency conversion. Just fill out the form below and mail it with a check. You'll receive a receipt of the transaction which can be used for tax purposes. Everyone's tax situation is different and you'll probably need to discuss your personal situation with your tax expert but let's imagine a hypothetical case where a California resident pays maximum federal and state income tax rates totaling about 50%. A deductible donation to a charity could result in an increase in that person's refund of about 50% of the donation. If that person donated $200 to the Archive via PayPal the Archive would net $190 but that donation would not qualify as a tax deduction. However if the same person donated $400 through the Anglo Charity, the resulting deduction might increase his refund by $200. After the refund, he'd only be out of pocket $200. However the Archive would receive $300. In both scenarios the final out of pocket expense was $200 - using PayPal yielded the Archive $190 while using the charity gave the Archive $300. Obviously the larger the donation the greater the advantage of sending the donation through the tax deductible charity.

Great Information for a Great Cause

Buck,

Thank you for providing this information for all of us to help support this great effort. Every one of us who are interested in Tigers and/or Alpines should recognize the value of recovering and maintaining the historical documents and drawings for our cars.

Thanks!

Dollar versus Pound Steriling

In my earlier post (pre-Brexit vote) I wrote that the exchange rate was about $1.50 to the pound. The current rate is about $1.33 to the pound. Dollars buy a lot more pounds now than a week ago! This is a great time to donate to the Archive building fund!
