The construction of the new building in Wroxton, UK, which will house the collection of the Rootes Archive Trust has reached a major milestone.
A week ago the Trustees were able to move over forty drawing cabinets into the new facility. The construction had then reached the point where it was most feasible to begin moving - the mezzanine was half finished and the permanent outside doors were about to be placed, so the timing was perfect to bring in a large flatbed loaded with the drawing cabinets, forklift them from the flatbed through the door opening and then raise them onto the completed portion of the mezzanine.
As I recall, each cabinet weights about 600 pounds. Upon safe completion of the move, the contractor was able to resume installing the doors, and completing the mezzanine, stairway and interior.
Fundraising continues in order to reduce the debt incurred by the Archive in the purchase and construction of this great new facility.
