Arizona Alger

Here's one to keep an eye on... http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/4825601540.html

Complete with 'gennie' tags and registered as a 'Tiger'

As he says:"1966 Sunbeam Tiger. This is a clone. Had a wrecked Tiger and a very nice Alpine. Registered as a Tiger. Only a expert could tell the difference. 260, 225hp+, 4 speed, front disc, both tops, less than 20 miles on build. If this was not a clone it would go for over 70K." Asking 38K

So beware in the future B9471059LRXFE = clone

In that shape I don't see it going for over 70k if it was real....dreamer. At least he was honest by letting everyone know it's a clone, I would hate to see a newbie buy it thinking it was real with vin tag and all. If you look at the online registry it just says Az 1999. Does Norm add notes to that site for clones, etc?

Weeds in yard

I agree there are more weeds in the registry yard. remember the German MK2 Alger? well it is listed in the registry as well. Remember the registry is and was a self reporting fill in the blank survey type of form to be filled in by respondents but only verified if Norm picks up the phone that day.

The trouble is some Nube buyer may say WOW it's in registry and get burned in a subsequent sale. Sure this one is easy to spot from 15 yards if you know the vin number and the square corner and differences tween the MK1's and MK1a's

Maybe a Scarlet A should be on the registry, I'm sure it would not take much of a website makeover.

What more can he do than declare it's a clone? Paint "Clone" down the side?

Just sayin.

I wouldn't pay more than $15,000 to own a really nice clone.

What more?

He could have left the Alpine VIN on the car for starters.

Just sayin.

Would be nich, but not needed.... as long as we list the VIN such as the B9471059 LRXFE in this discussion, this page should pop up as a buyer beware for anyone searching for that VIN on the internet. Try a search for B9471059 or B9471059LRXFE now.

Rich

Many times I have posted please put the vin and pics up of not just Algers but all the f/s cars out there. Since Al Gore created the internet:D we have data across many sites and that is one of my pet projects. I understand there are a few guys who's photos of cars and vin tags could compete with registry types. Had there been better info I may have paid much less for my first car and had way LESS STRESS then it was. Information is power and that power should be made available to those seeking it.

Al Gore

Way off topic of the thread, but, Warren, Al Gore, "the inventor of the internet", is (or, at least was, but as far as I know he's still got it) also a Sunbeam Tiger owner! I met him when I was going to college in Nashville, I was eating at a Taco Bell, and he walked in and said "is that your Tiger?". Turns out his Dad and my Uncle (who was an attorney and also in the TN state legislature at one time) were friends. That was long before he became VP. "Small World"...

Sure off topic just being silly. But really most intro to Tiger world read and become influenced by the "cars with altered and or removed vin tags could be crushed." In talking with a fellow member and TAC inspector today I agreed with him that here is one that could be made into a box as sad as that is:( Also could rightfully be called "a nice collection of parts." by some. Really as said earlier the Alpine tag should have remained on this car.

In most if not all states, switching VIN tags is illegal. I'm surprised he would admit to that.
