The way I heard it was that original purchasers were automatically placed on a mailing list that sent out items under the name of the Sunbeam Owners Club.
Payments to racers for placing at regional and national events were also handled through that Club. They asked that the badge be displayed so back in the day SCF displayed it and we still do. (However ours is getting pretty well beat-up after many, many thousands of race miles.)
At times Sports Car Forum would receive checks of $2,000 for a weekend's effort (when both Tiger and Alpine won at national points races).
SCF President HJ Meyers said that despite that money and his parts all being paid for by Rootes, his racing operations always remained in the red. He never had the Shelby "overhead" deal - a dollar for the Tiger and a dollar for "overhead" aka Carrol's pocket.
