Body stamping? Secondary VIN Euro Spec

I found this picture, maybe on this forum, but I noticed this stamping on the bulkhead of the chassis number. Was this done later or at factory?
 
It's an Alpine 260 which would have been sold In Europe ( not UK).

They have the VIN stamped on the bulkhead. Shame they didn't do all of them like this.

Sure would have been helpful to us 40+ years later!;)
 
When yo import a car like an alpine or tiger down here in Au, if you put the car on full registration and it doesn't have the VIN stamped on the body they will assign it a number and stamp it on themselves, in either the door jamb or the rail, then and there.. not nice..
 
My 1965 RHDTiger was imported into Germany in 1966 and had the VIN stamped the same as the Alpine 260.
