I was looking at the page for my car and was wondering what the "rota number" and "Z" columns were all about. The ROTA's are not in numerical order and the Z's are sometimes left blank and sometimes have a "q". thanks.

ROTA numbers are the numbers for the "bodies in white" to be pulled off the line and turned into tigers IIRC. not sure what the Z column is.. dont have a BON to check

Get in line Z?

ROTA is for "rotation" or place in the cue. The works order for each vehicle. Rota #s are often repeated, used more than once? so what??? value were they or now are they? Trivia maybe.

Z is more defined. Norman's personal field for codeing groups of registry entries. FOE q (not a cue) s = stolen q = questions concerning some part of the listing? Information on what the code was about is in the comments.

That said, to reference and know what is recorded (today or tomorrow) in The International Registry of Sunbeam Tigers regarding a particular car? Contact Norm and be prepared to share with him all you know about that car today. http://www.rootes1.com/

i should add a little clarification to my earlier post...

The Alpine and Tiger bodies were assembled by pressed steel where they were assigned to be either constructed as Tigers or Alpines. This meant certain things that were either added or left off during the construction of the uni-body. The bodies were then shipped to Jensen where additional modifications were carried out before the cars were finished. By the point the cars were removed from the production line they were already different between Alpine and Tiger. The ROTA number tracked the assigned cars.

Hope that clarifies. :) I didn't want to add to the myth of Alpine being turned into Tigers, the cars had unique identities at the start and while pressed steel did build both they have differences fro the start and then after being removed from the shared production facility the cars continued to be constructed with further variation.
