There was a link in my Hagerty's email newsletter to an interesting article warning folks about rebodied cars for sale. (Sounds familiar?) Although the article focused on Mustangs/Shelby GTs and Cameros, it did talk about the need to get a car checked out before buying it, to make sure that it is what it is advertised to be. It does say that taking one VIN number from one car and putting it on another is illegal (in the U.S.). You can read the article (as long as the link is good) at https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/10/08/buyer-beware-rebodied-cars-are-out-there?utm_source=SFMC&utm_medium=email&utm_content=18_October_10_HagertyNews.
The article does not mention the TAC program, which can certify that a car did start its life as a Tiger and not as an Alpine. A good piece of advice for anyone contemplating the purchase of a Tiger is to make sure it has a TAC certification and sticker in place. If it doesn't, you might wish to offer what you think an Alger is worth. At least you won't overspend.
