In case you have not heard yet, California passed a law allowing the DMV to produce replica license plates (black on yellow, yellow on black, and yellow on blue). They need to get a certain number of pre-orders before they will actually make them. I did not hear what they are going to use for material, so they may wind up being aluminum. But at least it would be a legal license plate. For more information, check out the link. http://www.ebaymotorsblog.com/vintage-license-plates-available-for-california-car-owners/

I have no skin in this, since my Tiger has it original California plates.

Oh, an a very Happy New Year to one and all!

You can still get YOM plates until they get the 2500 orders they need
to manufacture the replica plates sometime in 2015 . THey will be
flat photo aluminum plates like the ones made in Oregon. I can't get too
excited over them and typical of our law makers in Sacremento these days.

Aluminum for sure. They seemed to ne saying also in what I have read that the WWW.cadmv.gov may also be printed on the plate, gee that will look period correct.
Scuttlebutt on the plates also leads to a reflective plate as well.
With a YOM plate you pay 10 bucks a year on top of the registration cost.
But also with both you can not non op the car which forces you to also carry liability insurance . I used to carry and sell insurance comp only as cars were in storage.
Go YOM and use the extra 30 bucks to join a cool car club CAT.

I see the ebay blog and I hear that vanity plates cost 40 per year, if it is indeed 50 as blog bigger reason to go YOM

I talked to my DMV gal about this--she said the last time they had special plates and had to get 2500 orders it took almost 2 years, so this may take awhile.

On another site it read "7500 requests or 2015, whichever comes first". And they will be flat and not raised letters.
