To all CAT Members heading to Tigers United in Monterey, CA June 18th -21st 2025.

CAT Member Fred Bongard is looking to lead a caravan up to Monterey on Wednesday June 18th and would like to coordinate with those interested.

As of now the plan is to meet early Wednesday morning to avoid LA traffic as much as possible. Meet up about 7am at the McDonalds parking lot off of Valley Circle Blvd and the 101 fwy in Woodland Hills. For your GPS, the address is 23340 Avenue San Luis, Woodland Hills, CA 91364

A few designated fuel stops and a stop for lunch would make for a leisurely trip up the 101 fwy to Monterey.

We are starting this thread to invite people to add any suggestions as well as see what interest there is to participate. Everything is in the planning stages and flexible so If you are so inclined, please post a reply and let Fred know you’d like to participate.

Thanks!

Fred,
Patrice and I are too scared to drive up there solo so maybe if we dare to take two cars the Green reliable one and other Blue notorious one that made it across the continent East to West in 1980 that I am too chicken to drive beyond our local shopping center!

Update June 10th 2025,
Patrice and I discussed the logistics last night. It is currently my understanding that we are going to travel together in the Ford Transit bus with trailer and Green (reliable) Tiger in tow, and Blue garage queen left at home. We will do our best to get out of the house at 4.30am to make it to McDonalds in time for my favorite Sausage Egg McMuffin and coffee before we continue the 6 1/2 hour drive to Monterey.
The Transit with trailer and Tiger will not be able to hold the Tiger pace on the road, however we will maintain the "sag wagon" position and offer a trade on the trailer if we have a caravaner break down on route. I will bring my winch in case we get a totally disabled companion.

I’m coming from the Inland Empire, so I take a different route. But…I’l be having lunch at Burrito Express in San Luis Obispo about 1pm, if all goes well. Then my route will be up Hwy 1 to Monterey. If you time it right, an option.

Hey Dan and others thinking about a drive up to Monterey......Just fyi, Highway 1 in Big Sur is still closed due to erosion and slides. The most significant closure is at the Regent's Slide, preventing travel between the Esalen Institute and Lucia. So really the only option is the 101. CAT member Terry Packer who lives in Arroyo Grande has a neighbor who works for Cal Trans and has said that continuing earth movement has put off any reconstruction for the near future. So really no one knows when it will reopen.

Oh well, Tigers hate freeways.

My other thought would be a group drive down Carmel Valley road on the way home Sunday. Then snooze along 101 for a while.

Hey everyone - sorry to be a bit of a laggard on organizing this, but life has gotten in the way.

Here is what I am thinking

We would all meet in the North Valley at about 8:00 AM on Weds morning. I don't have the exact location yet, but Dan tells me that there is a McDonald's off the 101 somewhere near Calabasas. From there, we would head up 101 with stops in Santa Barbara and Paso Robles. Route 68 comes off 101 at the south end of Salinas and heads over to Monterey. Google maps says that the proposed route is 4 hrs and 42 minutes with a distance of 304 miles.

I know that we will be coming from all over the Southland so some people might want to meet enroute.

Since I am relatively new to the club, I can only estimate what the fuel burns will be. I have a 302 in my Tiger, and seem to be getting somewhere around 20 miles/gallon, and that is what I am using for my rough calculations. We also need to think about rest stops and food, if anyone feels so inclined.

Please let me know what you all are thinking. Plans change, but as of today, I would appreciate a show of hands as to who might be interested in the caravan.

Turns out that is the week we are moving into our house after a year long renovation. So I Will not be going with you folks because I probably would not be welcomed back...Sorry. Phil Cohen

Waiting for responses to the CARAVAN.

If you are interested in the SOCAL to the MONTEREY Caravan, please post your interest here, so that I can figure out how many people want to join and the best route to take.

'Thanks

hi Fred, thanks for coordinating this. One question, is the idea to stay in a somewhat close column or go at our own speeds, but near enough to assist if needed?

Personally, I like the close column. However, I am agreeable to whatever the group wats to do. If we "spread out" we all have cell phones, so a call for help would be fairly easy.
