Caulking?

I'm stripping the undercoating and paint from the underside of my Tiger project. Sure am glad I have it on a rotisserie, would have given up by now without it. Anyway, there was some strange old caulking in the gaps between the front fenders, inner fender panels and the firewall. Is this factory? What should I replace it with? Thanks!

Plug them thar holes

Yup; you will learn the fun of using 2-part seam sealer (you get what you pay for). The 2-tube guns are available at most knowledgable auto supply stores. It is used before paint and/or coatings and sometimes needs to be built up if the gaps are extra large. The clear object is to seal any place moisture can hide. An example photo shows an inner floor. The underside is done just the same way.
