Due to a last minute scheduling conflict at the Long Beach City College Veteran's Stadium Parking Lot, there has been a last minute change in the date for CAT's Spring Autocross and Driving Skills Clinic. Originally, this was scheduled for Saturday, May 3. However, we just found out today that the college had to withdraw their permit for our use on that day, but were kind enough to work it out so we can use the parking lot the following day. So we are now on for Sunday, May 4.

For anyone unsure about autocrossing, you have no more excuses. C.A.T.’s May 4 event will have something for any level, from never-ever to SCCA regular. This is for fun. You are competing with yourself, no trophies or points given at this event. Passengers are welcome, but must be 18 years of age.

This a low stress event, the less experienced and beginners are encouraged. Instructors will be available. Think of this as a school, practice, learning environment. A challenging aspect of autocrossing is to learn the course. It’s no fun to get lost on half your runs. Because this isn’t Formula One, beginners and the inexperienced can take a slow speed reconnaissance after the course-walk, with an instructor driving or riding. Reluctant significant others should chat with Cindy Paretti, who caught the autocrossing “bug.”

You can get more details in the April/May edition of the Tiger Tales, except that the date there is wrong.

We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused by this change in dates, but this was out of the club's hands.

Right You Are!

It looks like it will cool off by Sunday.

Bob J.

Weatherman Bob got it right nearly a week ago. The National Weather forecast for Long Beach is a high of 85F (29C) today (Saturday), but drops down to a very pleasant 73F (23C) tomorrow (Sunday). See you in Long Beach!

and going to an Autocross, is the gurus can't keep their helpful hands off an old girl. Having and just been a lurker in the past, I beat my car about the course today.

Yes, since the speakers were removed from the parcel shelf in the rear and the tunes were not blasting, more pesky clunks and groans were heard.

To get back to the title, Dan Walters and Paul Paretti had jiggled and found excessive axle end play and a little wheel bearing excess. I just re adjusted the front end bearings 2500 miles ago:)

Since the car will be having a Maliburevue makeover posi and 2.72 R n P change will have to limit the beating of the car until morale , or the pocket book improves.

My Mrs. and Cindy got to drive together and for the first time I was able to tell Janice how to drive:cool:

Finally!

Any photos of Long Beach Cal. autocross? I recall seen folks with cameras.

George,

Thanks for asking about the photos of the driving skills event. I am glad that there are people who look forward to seeing photos of the events. I think I was the only one with a camera (unless you count the person peaking over the fence from the stadium, trying to take photos of the cars).

My first priority was to prepare Tiger Tales for the printer, which has been done now, before I could work on posting to the Forum. It takes some time to go through and select appropriate photos to post, and then to resize them to meet the size requirements. And I never know if people want to see action photos, photos of cars, or photos of people. Anyway, here are some photos taken during the event.

If anyone spots a misidentification in any of the photos, please let us know.

001 – Some of the cars parked before the event.
002 – Mike Michels and Bob Josten, trying to decide to do the autocross or make it a rally
003 – Dan Walters is leading the walk down of the course, while cleaning the pavement of foreign objects
