Common tail of Tigers

TTT a TAC sticker under the right side of your dash would be a strong clue the car has been TAC'ed. You can contact the TAC program for a definitive answer. (see link below)

Mike, The TAC Chairman is Patrick King. He makes the decisions and can explain his criteria better than I. Some of the TAC information is detailed, along with Patrick's contact info at http://www.stoa-tigerclub.com/tac/tac.html

At a bare minimum, you need one Senior inspector plus two regular inspectors to TAC a car. The way it worked a decade ago in SoCal, initially we had several regular inspectors trained. Senior inspectors still came down from the bay area. After an evaluation period the STOA decided to train these two as Senior inspectors. Since then more inspectors have been added and we have enough local inspectors now to TAC cars without bay area support. Feel free to give me a call if you want to chat.

Availability

The point I was trying to make is,

Being that good press travels way slower than bad.

I was able to call a Senior inspector, have him meet me at the sellers garage and rubber stamp the car as a Tiger. If a name means anything on the certificate his or Tom Halls would one be the best.

Buck was called 2nd as he is closest to my home. He was unable to visit the pad but was a source of good info and welcome to the hood attitude.
I was also able to call Jere T. another inspector who after the car got home and he got to see the car in its new garage. Neither of first guys to actually see my car who were inspectors are on the certificate. The car ended up being driven to a fix in at Buds were 3 other inspectors ended up signing the certificate.

A clear step by step should be put out for the TAC procedure. What I did not get at the time was that 3 inspectors are to see the car then sign off.
Having it done 1 at a time with the senior signing off last would make it easier, rather then assembling everyone together at the same time, with the paperwork and the car.

Possibly having the paperwork package chain mailed to each inspector with the Senior signing off last, could be a option.

Having TAC's done only at events that can be geographically undesirable and the limited amount of inspectors "in other cities" should be addressed.
It is going to take work to get the cars out there done, it should be done sooner than later.

Maybe a shotgun marriage of STOA and CAT would help mend the process.

Sorry, about the miss info on the 75 bucks vs 50 actual, I remembered a "well its going to be 50 or 75 bucks statement," as they are charging now and they were not sure. I balked as I had started the year before and got a pass.

TAC Training

Many thanks at_the_beach. I followed the link which you kindly provided and am now much better informed about TAC, the TAC inspection process and TAC Training. I will contact Patrick per your suggestion.
Cheers! Mike

Thank you for the info, don't see any reason at this time to get it TAC

BT- I did not know I was supposed to ask you about TAC. Out of over 200 people that viewed that post someone might have mentioned your name. I really dont worry about my car anyway, it was inspected at the concourse during TU8. I think Stan Clark and Tom Hall did the inspection, if there was a problem with my car I would have been disqualifed. Heck, I scored more points than anybody, OH yea concours is like golf, low score wins. I did win a CAT dash pad, #1.

Before everyone starts picking apart the car in the 2nd ad, I'd like to volunteer to drive from SC to IL and take a look at it. I could spend a day in that garage. There isn't a single vehicle in there that isn't on my wish list.

Of course, I'm not an official TAC inspector. But I'd do it for free. :)

Well... looks like someone hit the 'Buy-it-now' for $28K on that one... ( B9470109 )

Among other things, seller had stated "THE CAR HAS BEEN RESTORED AS NECESSARY TO BRING IT BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION"...

Man, after looking at Norm's pic of 'mostly' pavement looking down through the interior, I'd say that was a tall order!!

On the subject of TAC, I had my car done at Grant's Pass in 2007 by Patrick and 2 other senior inspectors and I really appreciated them doing it !! It doesn't show on the STOA website yet but does in the TIROST and I have the paperwork so no worries ;)

TAC At Tigers United XXXV

This is just a reminder, but the upcoming Tigers United XXXV at Big Bear presents a good opportunity to have your car TACed. However, I need to remind folks that the Registration fee for TU Participants is now $185. You've missed out on the early registration fee that was lower.

See ya in Big Bear!

The Tau of TAC Politics

It never occured to me to TAC our old # 78. It has been a family member since it fell off the boat. Wrecked several times and rusted during the lean years, there is hardly a panel that hasn't been massaged back to life over again & again. We know it's real, and good enough for us. But, if the purist Gestapo ask for identity papers, we ain't got any . . . . . .amen

Yes you do Randy.....but a buyer in the future will not.

I trust a seller as far as I can kick them........and thanks again for meeting me in New Hampshire years ago to give me the head nod on my Tiger before I bought is as it was not TACed.

As you know, I was burned by a Alger sold to me as a Tiger in the past.

THANK YOU!

I, for one, am extremely appreciative of the hard work put in my the leaders of CAT. At a recent car show, some questions were asked (by Tiger owners) of the TAC certificate on the windshield and where/if it was done. I responded by advising them to review the name of the first inspector on the form. My confidence quieted any further questions, and having Buck Trippel's signature could be my fav part of my Tiger ownership. Now that I have gotten to know Bill Graf, Jere and the others who give so much of their life to CAT, ALL signatures of the inspectors carry the same great value to the marque in my opinion. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!

Okay then

Tom Hall is inspector no. 1 That's all I was aiming at.

Randy, come on the Gestapo looking for papers....

Having been a insurance agent for over 20 years I only look at TACs as part of estate planing.

Here is a story from this weekend.

A friend a former client with 2 super sweet BMW 2002 a Tii and a carb model and several small Honda cycles dropped off the radar. Both small bumper and sunroof cars. 1 was original paint and nice and the other was one repaint coco mats just SWEET

No phone call returned, then dead phone. Went by his work, it was closed.
It worked into about 6 months since I heard from him. I went by and his neighbor came out told me he died, and everything went for cheap. The super clean original paint 2002 and the one repaint Tii sold for 1/3 of their market value . As wacky as things are the CB160 of his that I helped him with from time to time went in a package for $3,000 with two 300 dollar roller bikes. Go figure the little bike sold for market value and the cars were given away!

On my Sunday cruise out of the blue, one of the the 2002's haunted me by driving up next to me on Palos Verdes Drive 2 miles North of Trump golf course.

WTH are the chances of that?

Well all that said, you all know what your cars are do not make the Mrs. your brother sister kids, or executor prove it up.

Hopefully the TAC process will become easier for all and the squeaky wheels will get some grease.

STOA TAC Operations

To all Tiger Owners on the CAT Forum:

Let me start by telling you that I am STOA’s TAC Inspector number 1 and Lead Inspector Trainer. I don’t actively participate in the CAT Forum, nor do any of STOA’s Senior Inspectors other than Buck Trippel, that I know of. The STOA Tiger Authentication Committee has been active since 1994 and has Authenticated over 900 Tigers so far. The TAC Inspectors are 100% volunteers and are not paid for their services. They act simply as Tiger Owners for the good of the Marque. We have been paying minor expenses for inspectors for the last couple of years to facilitate the TAC operation and minimize Inspector expences. This was the major reasons we began to collect a $50 fee.

All told there are thirteen active STOA Senior Inspectors, so far, to cover the world. We are currently training a Senior Inspector in the UK. Ten of these Senior Inspectors have the necessary documents and are ready to offer local inspection for Authentication. Most, but not all of them, have the ability to train new TAC inspectors. The number of Senior Inspectors is limited by several factors and one of the most important is absolute integrity and trust. They are all long time owners and respected members of STOA and the other clubs they belong and contribute to. Were they not owners with this level of respect, the whole TAC Program would have no value.

We have collectively trained and accepted 68 Inspectors since we began the Program. A substantial portion of these Inspectors and most of the Seniors, paid their own way to my home, to receive this training. I have also traveled across the US several times, Australia, twice, and the UK, at my own expense, to Authenticate Tigers and train Inspectors and Senior Inspectors. At the current time, of the 68 Inspectors that have been trained, we have about 48 that are currently active.

The following is a list of the active Senior Inspectors that are ready to Authenticate Tigers, their Locations and contact information:

1. Tom Hall SF Bay Area Insp 1 (925) 462-3876 modtiger@comcast.net

2. Mike Andres SF Bay Area Insp 3 (650) 592-0247 mjandres@sfsu.edu

3. Pat King SF Bay Area Insp 5 (408) 529-8189 partrick@lgsrc.com

4. Larry Atkisson Seattle ,WA Insp 15 (360) 638-1998 catkisson@aol.com

5. Tom Calvert Wash, DC Insp 20 (410) 255-8964 tcalvert@bmtsyntek.com

6. Paul Sheahan Mid FL Insp 23 (704) 545-2458 sunbeamtiger@prodigy.net

7. Peter Thomson Sydney, AU Insp 25 (02) 9419 5774 prt.108@bigpond.net

8. Doug Babcock Portland, OR Insp 29 (503) 664-7404 dougbabcock@comcast.net

9. Buck Trippel LA, CA Insp 33 (310) 918-9767 bucktrippel@verizon.net

10. Rob Roy Dallas, TX Insp 54 (817) 431-9840 racetig@hotmail.com

You may contact any of them to discuss the program in general or what events in their geographic area they normally have a TAC operation planned for. You can also pretty much count on TAC operations being available at any major Sunbeam meet. The Seniors also schedule several invitational TAC operations a year in their vicinities.

One would think that an organization, geographically located in the greater Silicon Valley, would have many active members that had the relevant talents to build and maintain a reasonable internet web site. The truth is that very few Tiger owners with this talent are active in our area. So building STOA’s web site has turned into a difficult, multi-year ordeal. We are hoping that our new developing site (www.sunbeamtiger.org) will have the complete listing of Authenticated Tigers by mid summer.

You can contact me or Pat King (TAC Chairman) with any questions you have about the TAC program. We will do our best to respond to you in a timely fashion.

Tom, thanks for taking the time to post this info. All of your collective efforts are appreciated!

I will always be thankful to you for taking the time at Santa Maria to look at my original rivets, as well as correct the TAC certificate AND write me a letter to go along with it! Thanks, again!!

I just completed TAC inspector training from Rob Roy. He was in town for the Mechum auction and spent several hours at my house doing the training with me using my authenticated Tiger. I thank STOA for trusting me with this very valuable (to the mark) knowledge.

I hope that my test was passing and I get my TAC inspector credentials soon.

Rob was excited about the possibility of a TAC session in the Midwest in the near future but I will have to go to Korea for a year come August. Count on a Midwest TAC session once I return.

I have had 3 of my 5 Tigers TACed and was very appreciative for their time and effort. Thanks Tom and all the others for a great service.

Bravo

After all Toms good work to add to this posting possibly our humble adm. Tiger Blue can close this thread and move the great info Tom has provided to it's own prominent location where everyone can get easily a hit when they search for TAC info.

Duke Bravo, you are a good addition tom anyone's team.

900 authenticated Tigers is a pretty good achievement so far but with 3500+ acc. to Norman's registered survivors still a lot of work ahead. UK TAC training is very much appreciated but ultimately you may need to consider expansion onto the continent. We'ld be ready to support such activity over here in Germany and Switzerland since there also is an increasig number of original and fake Tigers on the old continent...

I agree as many of the Fake Tigers are getting shipped and sold overseas due to the TAC program and the communities collective eyes out.
