Coolant System Pressure Check Questions.

Pressure check coolant system on 66 Tiger with 289. Not started in over 10 years.

Drained small amount coolant from radiator. Easy open, coolant drained easily, looked clear, no rust, oil, or apparent contaminants.

Topped off and pressure tested at 14lbs. In thirty minutes, only dropped to 13lbs. Seems good to me. THOUGHTS?

Tested new 13lb cap. Didn't release until 15lbs. IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?

Don't know about the cap, but if you only lost 1 psi in 30 minutes that is fine. I just tested mine to 8 psi and lost 1 psi after about 5 minutes. No leaks when running.

People have mentioned about the heater core not being able to take much pressure, so maybe read up on that.

If you have a heater .. you may want to look at your heater core .. the original is only rates around. 8lbs.. so it's now likely got nicely bulged ends....

My bad on heater core, but will check. I guess I was thinking if cap was supposed to be 13lb, rest of system should be able also. Thanks.
