Mike Michels with a friend and I met near our home in San Clemente for the trip to San Diego and the races at the NAS as a part of Navy Fleet Week.
In little over an hour we were parked in the Car Corral. Erich Coiner, another CAT Member joined us with his red Tiger. Acres of Club cars all within the gates and near the grandstands and pit. Jim and Janet Massman were there also as volunteers working for the race.
Four Sunbeams included Steven Alcala's Sebring Alpine and Roger Davis of Colorado with an Alpine ready for a car show anywhere. The Alpines were in Group 4.
Group 6 was the big bore production race with the Cobras, Shelbys, Vettes and Tigers. Two entered with Tom Sakai as Owner/Driver and the Tripples # 74 Sports Car Forum Tiger, driver John Morton
Finish order was Morton first Tiger (5th) with Tom second (8th) a personal best for Tom.

In the results above check out the fast lap of that "G" car 4. What was he doing in Group 6? Started near the back and was passing 2 and 3 cars a lap including Tom and John in the last few laps. Check the pictures. And more in next post!
