Often get a comparison to a business as I've bought a few rollers and baskets of cars.
Craigslist still has some nuggets for the inclined.

Another 66 in front of the VIN car.
What fun correcting that ...
Why did the California BMV add additional numbers? I know of a couple cars that are now in Ohio that were done this way with one of them having the numbers stamped using what looked to be a label maker and secured under the VIN plate. The California title for our blue car had extra numbers on the title with nothing on the car but the dealership that verified the VIN looked at the plate and the extra numbers on the title were forgotten.

This was some lackey at the dealership .
A lot of Cali. cars are like this. Some say SUN66 in front.
The plastic tag is a factory afterthought to designate the year model, along with a spare key under the JAL tag is said to be a factory method.

Michael I love being able to correct you cuz I get to do it so infrequently :)

I've helped members get this problem fixed when they sold to somebody out of the country Canada etc. Otherwise the car could end up in impound at a border crossing. You don't have to look too far to see examples of this or examples of not having a secondary ID. Look to the possible fantasy thread here on CAT.

The car is coming home to SoCal. Picked it up for a customer last weekend. The seller was more than fair, when you add all the parts he tossed in with the deal. On a personal note, 2021 marks my 40th year of belonging to CAT. When I joined, I was the second youngest member. There was Howie S., then me, and I think Dan W. was two years older at 23 or 24. So, as I was towing this beast down the 5 freeway, I could just feel Howie looking down at me, laughing, shaking his head, at why I was still massing with Tigers.

Funny you should mention Howie today. Here's a picture of Ed Foster, Bob Deal, Dave Danks, Howie Schoenfeld, and Bill Davis from the ill-fated get together in 1983. This would be the last picture taken of Howie (and Bob).

Well glad I can still consider myself a bad influence or is it a good one ;)

As for the correction extremely likely they will send you to CHP.
If you are lucky maybe you can get an inspection by driving up with it on the trailer to the driving test line and saying I'd like to get this vin inspected and just maybe they'll shove it through. But I got the Torrance CHP guys broken in hopefully there still on duty there.

I have not been a continuous member but I was 18 when I first joined in 1980. I bought my Tiger at the end of my senior year in high school. I'm not exactly sure what happened but somehow I'm much older than that now.
