Cubby door or no cubby door?

So over the winter I'm going to replace my wiring, dash pad, dash, and redo the steering wheel among other things.
I always found the Tiger dash kind of odd looking with no door on the cubby, (I understand about the grab bar), what do you guys think, get a door this time?
I was thinking that with the door a new dash would not only look beautiful, but could be a great place to hide a radio, but the car is otherwise untouched bone stock, other than one repaint.

Cheers,

Paul

I was thinking of doing the same. My only thought was what style latch to fab on the glove box door? Maybe someone who did it can chime in and share a pic?

Door, magnetic latch.

Shit Duke, you have it all covered! We seem to have similar tastes in our Tiger too. Is that solid wood for the door or just burl veneer on both sides?

So what are the gauges and buttons? One says air/fuel ratio and the other is a pressure gauge. How do you measure air fuel ratio with a Holley carb?

Cubby

I like the magnet. However, does it keep the cubby closed under acceleration & and the accompanying shifting?

I imagined one popping open frequently when I thought about getting a new dash...

Must be one STRONG magnet?

find a beat up center (centre) console or even better

find the lock cylinder that matches it without destroying (disassembling) it...

use that to fashion a match for the dash cubby door latch.

I struggled over that decision myself.

Good luck,

Use 'rare earth magnets'. Pretty sudsy. Radio shack has them I think. If one isn't good enough, get two.

Fuel pressure, Wide band O2 gauge. Have a WB O2 sensor in one of the exhaust tubes. The ONLY way to tune a carb. Small red button of for doing a free-air calibration of the O2 sensor. Small red light is status indicator of O2 equipment. Big red light is front brake line-lock activated.

Got the dash here - http://www.prestigeautowood.com/ Rick at SS sells them too.

Yep, even with 454 HP.

The dash I bought from the UK has a 'bullet catch' on the dash section and a small 'depression on the door for it to seat in... When I installed the cubby box ( Rick sells one without the grab 'hole' but it's not listed in his catalog ), I put a small piece of sheet metal hanging down to make a 'stop otherwise you could close it too 'far' ... Never had it come open... but I 'only' have 410 hp

Sounds like you want a door.

I'd say if you leave those ugly staples in the cubby box put a door on it.

I like the clean look of the bullet catch but a strike plate needs to be placed on the back of door. Only so many times you can open and close the door before it breaks
the wood out and the latch doesn't work any more. A smaller stop plate is better than the bigger one required for a magnet and who says it needs to be installed in the
center? It could go diagonal across the upper left corner maybe and paint it black where it would be less conspicuous and less likely to scrape the back of your hand.

My 2 bits.

Pretty slick. I didn't know those kits existed.
