How difficult is removing and reinstallation of the window tracks, door latch, etc? Are there any special notes I should know before starting? I'm not looking forward to this. I have a feeling it's going to be a pain in the arse.

I have found repair history to be a factor. Missing or substituted fasteners occur often. The upper and/or lower window stops are almost always gone or corrupted. Keep an expanded view manual page handy to familiarize just where things belong.

The very worst part is fitting the anti rattle strip and weatherstrip on the upper door onto the glass. Those bloody clips fall off to the bottom of the door just as you are lowering the seal into it. I have walked away after having it right, wind the glass up and down and the seal raises. I have tried glue as well:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I had similar trouble.
I think the problem is the outer seal.

I went for the more expensive seal that Rick sells and it is so well made that it exerts an awful lot of pressure onto the glass, so much so that it pushes the door glass backwards towards where the anti rattle seal should be.
I had to clip and glue the outer seal to keep it in place.

In the end I didn't fit the anti rattle strips because there wasn't enough room for it.

Due to my tiger being against a wall in the garage, (truly tiny garage) I only did one door before.
Reading this thread has motivated me to do the other side and I have walked into this same problem again.
This time the effect is so bad that when I shut the door the top rear corner of the glass is hitting the steel frame of the soft top before the door is closed properly. :(

Window Seals

I think we have all had this same problem with the window seal. I mentioned to Rick that IMHO the rubber material was way too stiff and pulls out of the clips when the window rolls up. I suggested that the rubber should instead be more pliable so that the seal bends out of the way. He agreed, but said he had just purchased a hundred pieces. That was several years ago, so maybe if enough of us contact him, he'll make a change on the next batch.

My two cents,

Spike

In a way that is reassuring because I at least know that I haven't somehow done something wrong.

It is of course a bit disappointing that I'm now stuck with them as the price and the postage over the pond is a killer.

Has anyone found a way to ease them in any way?

Why wouldn't you have got them from one of the UK suppliers? The repros for the window blade seals are wrong fit many cars, not just stiffness but also dimensionally. I would have thought you could get correct spec OEM seals from coh baines in the UK???

Have a guess......

Swerving

In all of the UK now dy has the external rubber blade seals.... In the words of J.P McEnroe " You can't be serious " .....

Off topic but I couldn't resist... One of my other more serious hobbies in the past.

You're really not very good at guessing games are you.

It has nothing to do with UK suppliers.

I saw them fitted on the link I posted earlier and thought they looked very well made and seemed to be doing their job very well which piqued my interest so I decided to have a look for them on the Sunbeam Specialties site.

They are labelled on there as 'SAME APPEARANCE AS THE ORIGINAL' so allied with what I have just posted, it was a done deal.

I couldn't find anywhere in the UK who sold them so.......

They are beautifully engineered but the rubber is just too firm.
If the rubber was softer, they would be perfect.

I have now fitted one of the cheaper seals which I already had, but had side lined to use Rick's seals.

Looking 'original' wasn't that important to me. They just looked like they were doing their job well. That's what swung it.

Game.
