Door Strike

Having a hard time getting the my doors to hit the safety strike - the 2nd click. All new rubber, strike and dovetail were re-chromed. The doors close and are aligned properly (so it appears) I just cant get them to close to the safety position. I had the same issue before I put the new rubber on.

Any help appreciated. Ben

I fought that for a long time on the passenger door when I first bought my car... Make sure the brass piece at the bottom of the dovetail slides back O.K. It's got a small spring behind it but should slide back when you latch the door. Mine didn't and I couldn't get it to the second latch no matter what else I tried!

you're overlooking one problem that many never think of. you may find that the A post rubber is bunching up between the windshield frame and the wing window / door. we had this problem with the car we finished last summer. the door can't close completely. I have seen some use the door opening furflex with the rubber still attached. that could keep the door from fitting right.

It Might Be the Striker

I had a similar problem when I installed some new strikers in my doors. It turned out that the opening through which the latch part extended down was slightly too small, preventing the latch from fully extending. Toughing up the opening with a small file allowed the latch the freedom it needed to do its job. Good luck!
