Recently a TV channel here has been showing recent and old episodes of "Dream car garage" its an interesting show, and the later episodes are a lot better produced than the early ones (not to mention hosts) apparently in Episode 9 of the 2009 series they feature a sunbeam tiger, anyone seen that episode or know whose car they used?

Michael, I think that this is one of the best shows currently on TV.
I think they are currently only up to 2007 or 2008 [or at least in Sydney].
It can get a bit fluffy when they're just pushing their sponsors products but they do give some helpfull advice and pointers and some of the cars they present and run hard are just to die for.
It would be interesting to see how the Americans interoperate the Canadian point of view, if they're both on the same page with ideas on restoration.
All the best - Greg.

i would say we on the east coast have the same attitude as the Canadians do when it comes to restoration of sunbeams. when Canadians show up at a united as several do or show up in south Carolina as they did last month there is nothing different. the only way to tell the difference is to look at the license plates.

Greg,

They had the shows from the 2010-2011 series a few months back.. but as they are showing 2 per day they cycle through them fast and went back to the start of the series again.. so if i am lucky i will pin the tiger episode.. the later shows they have a female presenter with Klutt, still lots of bumf but a little less annoying.

As for their points of view.. with legendary motor co. they are a high end restorer and do some important cars.. they often talk about the importance of saving as much of the original car as possible and the importance of keeping the cars history.. which at that end of the market is important. You take a car to a shop liek that and the will rebuild it.. not re-shell it.. but that's a proper resto.. not re-body. they showed a hemi cuda that was a basket case.. so much rust.. massive work undertaken to restore it... but amazing result... i wonder what their hourly rate is??? !!!

They are showing the resto of a 300Sl gullwing at the moment. i saw one of those being done a few years back.. setting the doors on those is an insanely time consuming job.

Justin,

Not sure which car it is as i haven't seen the episode.. just the listing of they review a tiger in series 9... hopefully i ill get to see it. Hunted Youtube and couldn't find it.

From the link i'm not sure if they just showed the car to Klutt.. or it actually appeared on the show.. will have to wait to find out,

Michael, I have seen the later one's with two different female co-hosts but I haven't seen many of them.
I was watching the gull wing one the other day where they massaged the doors to fit, certainly time consuming and only for an expert.
I think I heard him mention $85/HR when they did a couple of shows in Germany and were comparing their restoration work to the Europeans. As I say I think this show would be 6 or so years old by now so maybe the rates have gone up some what.
An interesting point that Klutt did make was that they [the Canadians] sometimes over restore their cars and end up with trailer Queens that are rarely driven where as the Europeans didn't mind some wear and tear on their cars, raced them and viewed the scars and rub marks as something of a badge of honour.
This was what I was getting at when asking how The Americans view a restoration on a car, whether it be useable or just for show. I know everyone has their own personal viewpoint. I personally would prefer a useable car that is perhaps not as perfect as it could be, but one that you're not petrofied to drive in case it rains while you're out or you get a stone chip.
All the best to all - Greg.:D

The Restoration Attitudes

Having spent decades in restorations, we've noted many owner attitudes: Some just want it to run/pass safety checks/fix the next thing that breaks and keep driving. There's also the do-it-yerself budget crowd who wrestle to keep a fun driver on the road and not deplete the kids' college funds. Some will be point-to-point meticulous about authenticity/fit & finish/and rarely expose their "child" to the elements. Some, as the latter, will drive them and return for seasonal clean-ups. Then there's this strange bunch who never finish because something (in their opinion) is never quite right.
None of them hold a candle to our antique wooden boat associates who seem to come from a far different universe . . . . .

Hey now Randy, I have done both award winning wooden boats and now the major Tiger project. Now I have to figure out what universe that puts me in??

The Packard took 5 years to find or make all the parts. Getting the deck screws all aligned to follow the curves had us considering opening a gin joint. The next big meet is in August. I'll PM you some pics worth framing.

Wow

What goes on the rotary next?

I found a shell in Fallbrook that it would be fun to put on and see if it doesn't bend in the middle....

So airplane guys must be in a galaxy far far away.

Well, I guess we have moved from the dream car garage topic to "dream boat launch/dock"?

So to ask again.. anyone seen that episode or know whose car was used? Was it Waybrights?

Sorry Michael . . . . . .rw

The Dream Car garage was filmed quite often on the side roads here in my neck of the woods around the Niagara Escarpment
I have driven by Legendary probably a hundred times but never seem to have the time to stop in.
Way back Peter Klutt ran the Shelby Shop And I spoke to him briefly about restoring my First Tiger.
Seeing the work he did on a KR convertible, I knew it would be Way outa my league!
At any rate It is possible it it a member from around here that owns the Tiger.
I don't know if the Show is still being made
The co host Tom passed away last year, I believe.
One of the nicest guys you could meet.

Sorry Michael . . . . . .rw

All cool Randy... ;) just would love to know whose car they used or if anyone saw the episode.. I'm hoping to catch it on TV here at some point if i'm lucky!

We all get drawn off on different paths in or threads time to time.. :)

we have visual!

The episode with the Tiger aired today, a fairly stock MKI, had traction masters, Hurst shifter and strangely the reverts where the spec plate should be, but no spec plate (like an early MKIA)

Anyway.. do we know whose Canadian Tiger BFEB-911 is?
