El Mirage Tiger

I've seen that it's a large acreage area for off roaders. Do they run a competitive series similar to Bonneville? There is a Tiger from Ohio that has competed in the measured mile circuit. He has told us that he has to back off at the half way mark because his class restricts him not passing the 160 mph mark.

It was the Autumn of 1968. Just once, when the Ole#78 was set up for speed , did we attempt a full out measured mile. Some co-operation with the Maine State Police on the flat stretch south of Bangor at 2 AM (No traffic). VASCAR calcs one direction only read 168.3 MPH. Car actually laid down in the nose and the rag top started to leave. Very happy to never do that again.
Regarding the mention above about El Mirage events, yes there are six events scheduled each season. The El Mirage events are organized by the SCTA, same as Bonneville. The layout is similar to Bonneville Speedweek except there are no record runs (second run which provides the the run average, the average must exceed the existing record). One difference is the distance of each run, El Mirage is 1.3 miles in length, Bonneville is 3 or 5 miles in length. And of course the surfaces are very different, dirt for El Mirage and salt for Bonneville.
Attached is a picture of the car we campaign at El Mirage and Bonneville, a 1985 Dodge Shelby Charger. It is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 16 valve four cylinder motor. No records at Bonneville (that place is rough on cars!), but 5 records at El Mirage, the last was 193.789 mph.
