I was having some discussion about the embossed plate that sits behind the drivers seat on the parcel shelf or rear seat area. From what I have seen, it contains patent numbers from what I remember. Are these plates on all Tigers produced starting with B947 cars through to the end of Mkll production? Why are they there and what do they mean? I appreciate the collective knowledge of the club. I hope it's going to be a Great year for everybody.

Are you referring to the thin metal plate on the parcel shelf? That's the pressed steel ( people who built the body pressings) ID/patent. It's on all the alpines as well.

Embossed plate

Yes, that's the plate I'm referring to. Is there any info to glean off of it, or is it generic. Thanks Michael !

Nothing that is identity specific to individual cars, they were fitted to each bidy when doing the pressing. What might be interesting is if there is any differences in them between series I alpines to the end of line series v and tiger.

michael,
i'll be moving my cars around in the garages next week so since I have all five series of alpines i'll check that for you. i'll also be able to check a couple tigers. i'll let you know.

Not seen those photos of all the body plates from " all five series of alpine " that you own..... It's been a long week. Perhaps all the rebodying and switching vins makes it harder to rember what car started as which...

No rush... I don't think anyone expected anything.

Michael,
at the time I posted we were having good weather but it's winter here in ohio and our temps have taken a tumble and we have gotten SNOW. the cars are on skates and stored with maybe six inches between the cars which means I have to move one car out into the drive way to even open the doors on the others. the cars are nice and clean with covers over them and I'm not going to even open the garage doors until the white stuff goes away and the temps go up. I think ground hog day is close so that will give me an idea when I might think about getting a car out of the garage. stay tuned ! i'll let you know.

In the meantime

The ones I've been bored enough to read all contain various patent & filing info numbers. :p

I agree on the boring. wonder how long it would take to go thru the archive records to figure out what the patents are for?
