Emergency brake handle

I am in reassembly stage, and took off my emergency brake handle to paint it. Left the original cable and its attachments exactly where they were. Now I cannot line up the handle with the screw holes. Is there some trick to doing so? Cable seems to have shrunk about an inch..... Thanks, David

I would be curious about this too as my E-brake needs to be painted also and I may encounter the same situation.

If the cable relaxed while unattached, it could have slipped a couple of inches, possibly snagging on something when you pulled it taut to re-attach it. I know, sounds overly simple, but...

I remember the same thing happening. After a lot of bad words and despicable actions on my part I took all the connections loose from the rear drum and back of axel. reattached the handle and then went through reattaching to brakes etc. Nothing is ever easy...
