Fender vent placement

I am thinking of installing fender vents and not sure on the location in the fender. I see the Hollywood Sports Car racer had them high at the cut out area in the inner fender. I have also seen other cars that had them low, below the chrome strip and emblem.

What is the background on these vents? Is it a LAT option and if so where is the "factory" location?

If a LAT option does anyone have a picture of the part?

Did works cars have this and if so what is the placement?

LAT ones were like the 289 cobra ones, often mounted loeish on the guard, which means they don't work well. The hsc car and Fraser tiger had them higher and extracting where hot air gathers.. The works rally tigers put them on the top of the guards for Max extraction.... But they are a cut out not finned vent.

Any pics or literature on the LAT vent as I will need to get this by the collector plate approval process?

I have a couple Picts of the louvred version some one was doing with some measurements. Send me an email and I'll send to you.

I think hoghead needs factory/period documents to prove they were available for the car. I haven't had a chance to get my "works tigers" book out of storage.... If anyone has a copy to hand maybe they can take the picture of the scca docs in their that show them.

They were the lat 41 option, the LAT brochure lists them in the itemised lust, but there was no illustrations in the brochure. I believe the scca homologation dixs showed the photos of them.

Mine are fashioned after the Rally cars, I believe the LAT vents were below the 260 emblem.

Yes Bruce as we have discussed the LAT vents are very similar to the 289 cobra fender vents

what hoghead needs is the period documentation of the vents so he can get them past the tvu over there, not so much photos of other styles that people may have sawed into the cars . have you got some of the docs he needs you can post?

Hoghead (name would be good)

This is one if the pages from the book of Norman, I will see if I can find the scca document on the weekend.

vents

These were on the mk1a I bought earlier this year.

They were put on in the 70's and the car was promptly put in a garage where it sat until I picked it up.

I removed the vents as I don't really like the look and they weren't functional- they only provided a way for the rain to get in to the space between the fender and inner wheel arch.

Thankfully this car was never driven with them installed otherwise both lower front fenders would have been totally rusted out.
