Flow restrictor

My car's upper radiator hose is two pieces with a metal center ring in the middle. Some of my Tiger buds said it is a screen to catch flowing debris then I red it may be a restrictor to slow the water down in the radiator for better heat transfer. My car has the high volume edelbroch water pump and aluminum radiator and electric fan. The car runs warm but usually not higher than 1 o'clock on the temp gauge. A high volume water pump that pushes into a restrictor seems counterproductive to me. It works so I won't fix it.
I'm confused...

filter

Hi John, that's likely a gano filter.

Bill G. of the CAT parts department sells them.

It doesn't do much to restrict the flow unless it's clogged with junk.

Consider taking it off to check for debris. It's also directional, the pointy end of the cone points against the flow.

They also suggest to wire the hose clamps together so the hoses don't pop off.

Old shop notes

In the old shop notes there's suggestions of running a flow restriction to slow down the coolant . Just the name sounds like a old J.C. Whitney cure :)

I've run the Gano for years back in the Falcon six. It trapped chunks of cast iron like mini moon rocks, that a back flush will never dislodge.
