For you MkII headlight guys. NOS on Ebay

Same part

Number as the others I have two sets one is for sale soon too.

The eBay descrip says NON-peaked but they look peaked to me. NON-peaked should be considerably less $$$$ ?

...and chrome is what I'm looking for too!!!
I'd bid for them but some front end issues depleted my parts fund.:(

Bah humbug!

It will be interesting to see what they go for.

Cheers! -Kevin

They are 'non-peaked' in the sense that they aren't like MK1/1A rings but they are definitely 'peaked' to match the shape of the top of the fender of a Tiger... or Hillman

Duh, I got it. Guess just a matter of semantics.

When it was stated NON-peaked I envisioned the plain round ones that are available from other vehicles but don't fit our body profile leaving a little point of the body exposed. Peaked I think of as a round door with a peak to match body profile. The earlier MK1/1A I thought of as being called eyebrows.

NOS chrome ?

These chrome rims were "NOS" on some earlier Rootes vehicles, just not on the MKII.

I thought the seller did a good job describing that for a correct MKII, a buyer would have to take them to a chrome shop, have the chrome chemically stripped, then prime and paint to match body color.

When I look at old pictures of Alpines racing at Riverside in the early sixties I see a lot of these chrome rims replacing the peaked style. I figure those racers felt these rims must reduce drag a fraction.

I wonder if they will find their way onto a car or just end up sitting on a different shelf.

Hopefully in less than a year the repro's will be available and affordable to all..... :)

When is a door not a door? When it's a jar is the usual answer but it might also be that gizmo piece of trim around your headlight.

FWIW Having a British car I've learned my bonnet from my boot. Not sure the name Brits have for them but here in the US I've learned that those headlight rims, rings, bezels, surrounds, etc. are called doors. Don't ask me why.

Don't count on it.

The parts are cast pot metal. It's not easy to get the right size due to shrinkage.
UK archive blueprints are available but it seems they show finshed size.
I'd like to see club more involved in parts R and D.
