Frame number

In talking with the Alpine guys at C and C yesterday one of them pointed out that the D.M.V. added a assigned style tag with the same number as the cars vin on entry into California and application for title.

The reason given was no frame number is to be found on those series of Beams like Tigers.

Certainly there are other countries, that do the same as the interwebs have shown, but this was the first I have heard of the California practice.

I bet it would have made our brother in the "Possible Fantasy" postings import fiasco way less stressful.

The assigned tag is not pretty but the word was that it was attached in a modern fashion on the drivers door jamb.

I know there has not been many stolen Tigers over the years but this seems a good idea. I do not think anyone is going to rush down and get in line at the D.M.V. that is unless the car is going to the Netherlands N.Z. or elsewhere where trouble can lurk in the gov't D.M.V.

Pictures of added body tag

So as the story goes. The Alpine was brought into Calif. On inspection DMV decided since the body had no frame and body number they sent car back to CHP for inspection. Still finding no additional number and no bad info. in databases the vehicle was sent back to DMV who attached the tag on door jamb.

Somewhere in my Tiger picture collection I have a pic of a N.Z. Tiger that had a similar tag added on entry down under.

Glued

Screwed and well not tattooed. The foil sticker is glued and it has tamper stamping cuts that will tear if the tag is removed. Remove the rivets and the tag can still not be removed without destroying it. It has been said that most period cars have a hidden vin. My old time VW shop owner pal swears that the vin was hidden on even those cars. Probably why CHP looked at Jon's car very close. I have seen on my old Falcon's a hidden vin under the same fender as the visible one. The Falcon/Mustang has a vin you have to remove the fender to see, and maybe others. But you probably have forgotten more than I know bout them F.O.R.D.S, Found On the Road Driving in a Sunbeam.

Oh PS I have a foil only on a SPCNS trailer that is the same, it is lifting off at the edges cause it bakes in the sun.
