Front plate frames

I have now pulled 3 plate frames with rubber itstead of the metal bracket plate itself . The rubber allowed it to bend in and not twist the valence.
The Rootes group plate comparison on STOA aside. Has any others taken off the rubber one on a early Tiger.
I'm pretty sure the metal ones came on the SV as I've picked 3 or 4 from them 2 in original paint cars.

Maybe

It is not clear if the rubber-mounted front plates ever came on the Tigers.

The Sunbeam 260 and 289 Parts Manual does not list the bracket parts for the Tiger, so we have to revert to the Alpine Parts Manual.

Attached is the diagram for the front license plate holders from the Alpine Parts Manual. The rubber mounts you mention are labelled as 119. The list of parts from the same document appears to show that the elimination of the rubber mounts (119) occurred during the Series IV production. They were no longer used on B94102650 and later Series IV or any Series V Alpines. I do not know about production dates for Alpines, so maybe someone else can chime in to say when this change in Alpine front plate brackets occurred and that date can be compared with the start of Tiger production.

Series 3 Alpines introduced the rubber front plate mounts as a cheaper way to mount the plate and allow access to the crank start. The SI/II alpine had hinged mounting brackets.

The tiger wouldnt have needed thr crank access so can imagine they were deleted from a tiger

Michael - Do you agree with what the Alpine Parts Manual says about the rubber mounts being discontinued during the Series IV Alpine production, so some of the Series IV Alpines and all of the Series V Alpines do not have them? Any idea about when this changeover occurred?

David,

Iirc there may have been 2 types, early ones which were like 2 rubber quick jack wedges in shape that rhe plate mpunted to and and were pulled forward and 2 that mounted a metal bracket. On sv they are definitely deleted... I would guess they were phased out during sv production.. Ill get someone to check ;-)

There is some evidence that no Tigers ever used the rubber number plate hanger - look at the Tiger parts manual excerpt attached below...

P.S. One of my Tigers has the rubber bracket but it's because of an earlier front damage/ Alpine SIV nose usage

Possibly

The early AF or black dash cars had em. Just like the design better and mostly it comes to mind in the land of steep driveways . Had a gee there's another 99 points to go when at a Woodley show I got a "out of 25 cars I had the only correct front plate holder on my car."

I reluctantly sold my black dash Tiger about 3-4 years ago, when I was downsizing and moving. It was a beauty from the west coast. It now resides in Ohio. Here are some pictures to show you what a black dash Tiger looks like. Not entirely stock with the aftermarket steering wheel.
