I am finishing up putting the car (Mk1a) after getting it back from the paint shop and have a few questions but will post them individually since they are of different subject matter.

3. Is there a trick to getting the stainless trim that runs along the car back on after a new paint job? It seems that there is paint build up in and around the snaps that the trim is supposed to snap back on and I am breaking my thumbs trying to get it on amd concerned I'll dent the car...Any tricks would be appreciated.

Step # 87-2/3

First and formost, let the paint cure for a long, long, longer time. The sniff test works best; get some fresh air, walk in and put yer nose on a fender. If you can smell the chemistry, it ain't ready . . . . . . . .

PS: Putting the stainless ribbons back on can be frustration city. I usually rock them while pushing with the arthritic old thumbs. When that fails, I have a couple of soft pine blocks coupled with the gentle rubber mallet. Sometime you can start by locking in either the top or bottom crimp and impact or rock it over the opposite detent. Patience and a bit of dexterity helps a bunch. . . . No Beer.

My car was painted with all of the plastic clips removed.
I bought new clips from Sunbeam Specialities.

I had to open the holes in the fender up about 1/64 to get the clips to go in the hole.

Gentle thumb pressure is all that is required to snap the trim on.
