GT Door Card Problems

Hi,
My car is a late MK1 tiger and has what I believe are GT door cards.
They have the pad along the top next to the glass and the 4 pleated parts running along the top of the card.

It would seem that a previous owner at some point stripped off the vinyl and renewed the boards in them and wasn't too careful with the saw when he made them.

The top and bottom edges are like a dog's back leg and the dimensions are all over the place.

This is making fitting them nicely impossible.

I wondered if someone would be kind enough to give theirs a measure and let me know what the correct dimensions are The most important dimension being from the top to the bottom.

Also, I have read that GT door cards should have an area beneath the quarter light where a metal strip is attached. (mine haven't got this) so if someone would be kind enough to take a picture of these for me so I can see what these should look like, I would be very grateful.

Thanks all. :)

I'll see if I can take photos on the weekend i have mine off the car... For what it's worth I'd buy the repro ones from sunbeam specialties, have the metal stiffeners, correct heat seams and are made with plastic rather than original millboard so won't rot , buckle or damage.... My .02

Thanks for the offer Michael.

Unfortunately, I can't justify the cost of the ones from Rick. The shipping cost would be harsh and ideally I would like to keep the original vinyl at least if possible.

Fair enough, especially if you want to obtain orohinal vynil, that said I always giggle when guys in UK and USA complain about shipping... I had to send them from states to Australia.. And when you consider distance, regularity of route and currency differential and the usual stuffing of us by Intl companies I think you guys need perspective on costs!

Will try and grab you photos and dimension.... Pm me your email and I'll send direct.

I have a GT Mk5 Alpine and it has the 5 pleat door covers. It also has the covered metal units that completes the covers to the window opening. There is no special metal under the triangle window, just the normal cast chromed unit

Steven,

He is reffering to the thin metal stiffeners that are fitted to the back on the GT door cards at the leading edge where they go under the area bellow the 1/4 window.

As for the GT doors they are different to ST doors, they have:
Little brackets on the door that hold the door card out inline with the padded waist roll ( the trimmed part along the top of the door)
The waist roll
The GT specific cards that have the pleats and the metal stiffeners on the back ( also not as tall due to doortop roll taking some of the depth)
The deeper bases under the 1/4 window to align to the doortop roll
The additional bracket on the locking dovetail that clips over the door card at the rear to hold it.

As a side note quite sure you have a "series" V alpine ;)

I thought I'd just pop a quick thank you on here to Michael for helping me with my door cards problem.

He supplied me with measurements, diagrams and photos...on Christmas Day no less!

Tiger guy through and through.

Thanks Michael!
